well, i think its still for sale, in brisbane, 3 phase, 2 post doo daa, very solid unit, my first year sparky mate unwired it still live, he didnt find the bang noises we kept making very humurous hehe. if anyone is interested let me know

you could tap into the hot water supply in your house and run, a poly pipe through the slab like spegetti, so that you have hot water constantly running in the slab which would offer heat,

i know they do this up at the mountains

you can get them in 12ft high walls if your careful with hoist placement and on some cars you might not be able to leave the bonnet up, which is no biggie. vans might not be able to go on high on them either.

most buiders i talked too recommended 14ft high walls.

wouldnt want a shed 1m down in the gound then coping major rainfall

retaining walls, drainage, big job

With the slab I would definately talk to an engineer or someone qualified in that area to find out the thickness and reinforcement requirements for a concrete slab under a hoist. Dont forget that there could be tention loads on the dynabolts that hold it down if you have a car with really uneven weight distribution or if you only lift one end of the car on the hoist as well as all the normal down loads you would expect.

Also dont forget that with that kind of hoist you wont be able to roll things like engine cranes accross the middle because of the chain run underneath there so you'll need space to get things around the outside of the hoist as well.

I would check on the current draw on start up on that 240 volt hoist, few years ago i looked into a 240 volt hoist, from memory the start up current draw was around 120+ amps or something crazy like that ... Once runing dropped heaps but you would have to allow in the wiring & circuit breakers for that initial massive current draw, cant remember the exact figure of the runing current ... Ended up going 3 phase, lots cheaper to run & no high start up current draw ...
Depends on the hoist manufacturers specs for slab thickness most quote 150mm but i have seen some down to 100mm for the slab ....
Clear floor hoists are definately the way to go if you can afford to ...

just lose a little hoist height and box around all the hoist and put it flush with slab, it might work

Depending on the property it is quite doable though. Really depends on the depth of the water table but if you ran drainage around the whole shed and then ran that piping with the wholes all around it around the shed it would keep it pretty dry.

If the ground was nice and high too it would make it heaps easier as the floor could also drain easily. If it didnt work out well you could always pump the water out

If possible use threaded rod with epoxy like epirez much better system then dynabolts. As I said earlier 150mm slab with SL82 top and bottom should be fine the footings will depend on the foundation classification. I guess if you wanted to you could put a slab thickening under the posts of the hoist.

You could excavate for the shed but as stated before you will need retaining walls probably around 3 sides and a decent drain to intercept any water during heavy rain.

The slotted pipe mentioned above is called ag-pipe dont use the one with the filter sock because over time the sock becomes clogged with silt and the drains dont work as well, surround the ag-pipe with about 300mm of nom 6mm gravel.

I wouldnt mind going 4mtrs becasue then I could put a mezanine floor above the second bay.

If you want a decent mezzanine, you'll need more like 5 meters. It's not really that high. Don't go down, please- it's far more trouble than its worth. If you put a decent (say, 900 square, 500 deep) footing below where you put your hoist posts, she'll be fine. I poured a few shed floors in my apprenticeship and we never went over 100mm slab- you don't need it. Build the biggest (footprint) shed you can fit on the block that the council will let you get away with- you need the room. Honest. Mortgage the wife or something. And if you need a hand with it, just mail me a plane ticket

if your building a new shed and have 3phase in your area i would definitely reccomend running it now.

A 3phase hoist will be much more reliable and efficient. It opens up alot of possibiltoes for future equipment, compresors. welders etc

Theres no chance of digging the shed down. theres a 6x6mtr slab of cement in front of were I want the shed to go. I want the shed level with this and I will put a carport over it joined to the shed.

Interesting about the startup draw on the hoist. I have a spaky mate who will wire it for me so I'll talk to him.
