    Default Reusable oil filter??

    Hey guys just found this:
    http://www.importperformanceparts.ne...rs-toyota.html

To be honest it seams to good to be true, when thats the case it normaly is but what do you guys think?

A little bit of mess at oil change for better filtration and save on buying a filter...

Can't see why it wouldn't work. A few things that I notice

    - no bypass valve so if you forgot to clean it and it got really clogged then you could be in for an expensive lesson.
    - no anti drain back valve

It would be interesting to know what paper filters screen down to as the typical filtering for this is 50% at 10 microns, 70% at 20 microns, 97% at 30 microns, and 99% at 40 microns

At $90 theyre not that cheap, thats about 8 or so standard oil filters. Plus how much easier is it to throw the old ones away, youd end up spending a fair amount of time cleaning one of these i reckon.

    Hmmmmmm....

Notes: Less pleats than paper filter (too many pleats can end up restricting oil flow). Additional flow rate can help to increase oil pressure (but not beyond reasonable limits). Typical filtering is 50% 10 microns, 70% at 20 microns, 97% at 30 microns, and 99% at 40 microns. TOGA Oil Filters have 16 inlet holes for increased flow (Fram has 6, AcDelco 12, and Champion & Wick have 6).
hmmm not sure here but I think OEM filter are capable of filtering down to 5 microns... and can filter more than 50% of the contaminants at that size....

The only independant testing of this kind of thing that I have seen can be found at http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/oil_filter_test.html. Mind you it's about 12 years old now. The standard Toyota filter did not exactly rock it up though.

This is one thing i would stay away from....... but thats just me!

Some / most of the contaminants in an oil filter are that fine you prob would not beable to remove them from the filter anyhow
