I am quite willing to speak to them about it. I tell them their brief is insufficient, discuss with them (usually a meeting) what the specifics should be, then give them a variation quote, including charging for the meeting at hourly rates, and charging for doing up the variation quote at hourly rates. If they want to avoid it, they can supply a complete and accurate brief to start with... I cant spend all my time sorting out their problems and not charge for it, the company I work for would go broke (it is a small firm and the profit margin isnt all that high).

The fact is, the client never realises the error until halfway through the design. Often the original design needs to be revised, and that costs them more too. Goes to show the cost of not knowing what you want upfront (shopping is cheaper when you have a concise shopping list, as you dont impulse buy as much)

    Ok Look,
I am going to put a stop to this now.

YES I am behind on applications. I made the stupid mistake of trying to help those who had not filled out the application properly instead of just plain deleting them.
I get to a person when I got to them. I just started at the top of the list and worked my way through, When I got a chance to between looking after my kids, Finding a new house to live in, then moving house and being sick, keeping my home at some type of livability and everything else that I have to do.

I will be getting to some more of these today If my internet continures to work for me. BUT, any application that is not 100% complete will just be removed. Oh but wait, Then I have to deal with the million emails about "oh but why, what didn't I do"

The rules and what we require are made very clear. And the way I see it now if you cannot read and follow simply instructions I don't want you on a forum that I moderate.

    End rant,
    time for my morning coffee.

when you delete the application does it send a email to the user that failed to attempt?

maybe have the rules sent with it....

if you would like assistance checking over details i could assist you in that matter.

pm me if you would like a hand.

People get an email saying that they have been unsucessful.
Given the numerious reasons people can be rejected the email doesn't actually give a "reason"
In saying that it is all written in Red at the top of the sign up screen that if you fail to provide the details asked for you will be deleted.

I for one can't tell the difference between red and black print.

I have to half agree with Kirsty, but I beleive if you setup the intake system, so a field is blank, it automatically smacks them in the head, and have like the HUGEST font possible written at the top that it is mandatory to have a real address, then it might help you ALOT.

Secondly, are you inputting the people into the database yourself?
You should have the app auto do that and just wait for you to read and click activate or delete.

Might I just suggest that you guys log out and to to the register screen.

It has been changed since a few of you joined to make it blantently obvious what is required. Yet people choose to ignore it anyway.

    Kyosho,
No I don't have to enter details into anything until people are club members.
But I have to check all info is there and not bogus, (that takes the longest))
Make sure that they don't have multiple accounts, ( people are signing up 2 or three times because they are not approved instently like most forums)
Make sure that peoples details are in the right fields so that there personal information is not desplayed to the public

Each application can take anywhere from a few seconds (if there is no isses that I can see) to 5-10 minutes depending on what I get dealt with.

    Ahh

I see, how it was said earlier, I thought it passed you a filled in form and you entered it into the DB.
So do you guys basically verify that people live at certain addresses before giving them access? (Is this just like a quick name check on yellow pages etc?)

Obviously 123 Fake St isn't real... They don't have good enough architecs/engineers to build a house that large...

    Kirsty,

I find it is too easy to skip over and not read it... Maybe Bold the main part in Red (rather than the whole lot in Red) and start it with a Bold Red "Important:" (Important:)

Something to note on the signup. I'd make this big and bold:

"Please be aware the majority of rejected applications are a matter of misunderstanding due to incomplete details"

And another thing, alot of people just skip to the field inputs.
I still beleive something to check everyfield required has SOMETHING in it, is a must for the forum, and when they don't fill it, it is just a JS message that pops up saying they forgot something, and it must be legitimate as it will be verified before approval.

Now we are starting to get good suggestions... curing the illness, not bandaiding the symptoms. Much better than saying "there should be more people working on this if there are so many bogus ones to get through"

    The fields are like that,

the application will not go through if the field are left empty, thats why people put in fake information. Not to mention the "F %#@ street" and the other profanities they like to add.

We need more people working on it...

By the sounds of things, we honestly do.
Such a large site, needs as much help as it can get, from the information that has come forth on how the process works (There was some bad comms a little bit back) Kirsty is just purely flooded with people wanting to join.

I'd help, but I don't think the club really wants to intake more people due to security issues with user information, and the ways on which people would have to be chosen.

Well, at least you understand the recruiting process. But if there were less timewasters, then we would not need another person, as the number of genuine applications arent all that high (We would have millions by now if they were) and as Kirsty said, if the application is all there, all correct, then it takes a matter of seconds to process. What we need is less bogus applications... plain and simple.
