Default She gurgles, then GOES - 4agze

    Hi All
My car has an intermittent problem. Its a 1987 JDM 4agze. I give it light/medium throttle and it gurgles a bit and then boom, goes like normal.

By gurgle i mean hesitates, like its getting no boost or no fuel or no air etc.

I thought it was a clogged fuel filter, i changed it, however the issue is still there!

Then i thought the spark plugs could be a bit iffy, changed them, still apparent.

changed oil in the SC, still apparent.

changed motor oil and filter, still apparent.

I dont know what to try next! Could someone please help with some tips!

Please keep in mind the this issue only arises after about 10 minutes of driving. Before that it drives like a dream!

    Thanks in advance.
    Martin

Ill put my money on vac leak. Check it out, shoudl be about 20in/Hg i think. I used to have a similar thing happening on my GZE, ended up being the pipe out of the SC being cracked.

Should be 20in/hg at what RPM, not very specific, mine has aroudn 13hg at 1200 and about 22 at 1800-2000rpm which is where it idles LOL

When my sc outlet had a 5inch crack it still ran, didnt hesitate just idled at 3,000rpm and was dropping off crazy boost, you could also hear it whine very loud. I'd lookin into checking your fuel pump etc, what mods are you running?

ahh after 10min of driving, most likely an electrical problem then, check fault codes etc

Without trying to hijack your thread, I'm suffering a similar problem. Just as you reach the supercharger swich on point, regardless of RPM, it goes lean. But if you use more throttle the air/fuel ratios get richer. Also it has very inconsistant AFRs wen cruzing.

check for good solid grounds from battery to body and from engine to body.

It should be 20in/hg at IDLE, not at 2000rpm, nor should your GZE be idling at 2000rpm.
After 10mins of driving is about how long it takes for the cold start enrichment map to finally disengage.

Yes but what i'm trying to say is, your idle rpm may be different to his idle rpm, his maybe above 1500 like mine or it could be 800, the vacumn level will differ depending on timing, idle rpm etc. Most of the time if an electric circuit has a problem it will only become apparent when warmed up, so check codes and let us know.

Idle on a 4AGZE should NOT be 1500+rpm. Idle, from the manual, is stated at 800rpm. If its more than that then there is something significantly wrong.
And high idles are commonly associated with vac leaks. Funny that.....

It may be worth just checking the ignition timing for good measure too.
