Cool, thanks fellas +1s all round
Matt, all of the above sounds right. The T-series is similar in appearance, but smaller. The 170mm you measured is the same as 6.7" which is what the T-series is rated at.

I'll see if I can dig up pictures of the differences.

Someone probably broke the rear end at some point, either by doing skids or some sort of smash, and it was repaired using whatever was available at the time.Originally Posted by whatthe?

One thing I'm curious about is what rear discs you have?

Doesnt look like any accident damage but it would have had to of been that rather that breaking it with the awe inspiring, skid producing power of the 5ME and auto!Originally Posted by Norbie

Got new rear rotors when I upgraded the front brakes. B&R brakes at Castle Hill machined all the bits for the front and I fitted those, but due to clutch problems I had them do the rear brakes when they fitted a new clutch. They used standard MA61 rotors, but did tell me that a little machining was necessary to make the handbrake system fit/work properlyOriginally Posted by JustCallMeFrank

Hmm interesting. You don't happen to know if the original ones were solid discs? From what i've seen, the T-series rears had solid rear discs.

Don't SA63's etc. have drums at the back?
You are correct. Sorry, I meant to clarify as T-series XXI've had a couple of 1GEU GA61's, including mine, that originally had T-series rear ends with solid disc brakes.

Im guessing it was swapped with someones car that wanted an F series but only had a T series just before it was sold. It was only a 5me auto and the previous owners probably asumed it would be that way forever and no one would find out.
Nah, cant remember, although I thought that the new rear rotor were solid as well, I could be wrong though, only saw them briefly before they were fittedOriginally Posted by JustCallMeFrank

One thing I dont understand and the only thing that keeps me from heading to the wreckers;Originally Posted by JustCallMeFrank
The pics above show a one piece tailshaft and a 2 piece job of different lengths. I'm assuming that the 2 piece is F series as Ive only ever seen 2 piece in MA61s and havent ever looked under a GA61. Is the one pice from a GA? If so, why do I have a 2 piece tailshaft and why did the manual one I bought off JAZE fit straight in behind my W58 and join perfectly to the yoke?
My diff is definitely like the smaller in the picture, it only has 3 mounting points on top too, whereas the f series out of the cressi has 4 like the bigger one in the pic.
Is there any way that someone could have botched up an F series subframe to make a T series fit? I have 4 holes in the plate that the diff bolts into (shown with 3 in JCMF's subframe pic)

The single piece shaft is a custom one, I just included it for reference on the relative length differences. They did only come with 2-piece shafts.
Perhaps the difference in length was able to be taken up by the length of the yoke, so it just didn't go as far into the gearbox. I can't imagine the reverse working though.
