Default Z20 disc machining, how thin is too thin?

    Hi there,

Need some advice, or specs if anyone knows.

I need to have the front and rear brake discs machined on my gz20 soarer. Anyone know what the specs are as to how thin they can go? The rears are already only just over 17mm thick. The mechanic at the brakes place said that each cars disc has a factory limit as to how thin they can be, anyone know what that would be for the gz20?

Are they the same as MA70 discs, in case I have to buy new ones?

Also, are there any decent, easy Z20 brake upgrades out there? I can't seem to find any that don't require a fair bit of fabrication and mucking around. The more comprehensive post that I can find for Z20 brake upgrade is this -

Anyone had any success with a brake upgrade kit or other setups?

    Cheers, Dan.

look up either the manual, or DBA/RDA sites for the min thickness

    here? http://www.dba.com.au/dba_catalogue_...005_v3_web.pdf

Found min thickness on DBA for A70 rotor but no Z20... Im guessing they're probably the same although im pretty sure the rotors on A70 have a slightly larger diamater...

Can any1 confirm whether or not rear A70 rotors are cross compatible with a Z20?? If they are do i need to change my calipers or can i still use the existing ones...

Can any1 point me to a Z20 manual. I used to get all A70 tech info from www.1jzgte.us but the site no longer exists...

an ma70 has a 300x22mm disc, minimum thickness of 20mm (its generally 2mm under stock size)
i do think the z20 brakes are a bit smaller - 280x something (perhaps 22 also)

2mm below stock, ok that's handy as a rough reference at least.

I've found the reference documents I was after, hosted on some spanish (i think) ftp, i'm not sure where .fr is anyway. Lucky someone saved them!

Here is the link, i think it's the complete A70/71 factory service guide, i've used it for heaps of stuff. -

the min thickness is usually stamped on the rotor somewhere. possibly on the outer edge

Ah ok awesome i'll have a look, cheers.

Does anyone know where a GZ or MZ20 manual would be on the net? Putting coilovers in atm, and the top of the struts on the rears are a B4STARD to get to, it seems we may have to take out the whole back seat and remove the parcel shelf to get to it properly (not looking forward to putting a rear strut brace there).

This manual might also have the min. thickness of the discs too.
