Try contacting Alloy Race Components in Melbourne

    http://www.alloyrace.com/

He should be able to make something like this for you. Sorting out the first one and getting the CNC program right is always the expensive bit, but you could make subsequent ones to sell to people much more cheaply.

Sounds like a great idea to solve the problem of breaking W5x boxes. I would think there would be a bunch of people that would go for this if it was as easy as fitting your adaptor plate.

Just need a good cheap source of R154s.

tried CRS today and they said they couldnt help with an adapter.or not 4 6months atleast.
the other thing i measured was the nose that the carrier sits on and it will come up about 28mm short but has the same o/d, so ill need to address that issue also.
    cheers

For the carrier I would probably look at going for a concentric hydraulic throwout bearing. I was looking at using one from a SAAB which was going to go over the W57 splines, so should be OK here if the R154 uses the same input splines. It doesn't rely on the carrier sleeve as it slides on its own sleeve. You do need to ensure that you can locate it centrally though.

I think some late model Falcons may also use this type of arrangement, but I'm not certain on this point.

Otherwise there are the after market versions from AP, Tilton, Quatermaster etc...

Here's a link to the AP site's page about them. I believe some of the AP ones are a direct replacement for the SAAB one as it was a popular (and cheap) mod back in the 70's, but a new SAAB bearing should be a lot cheaper.

Here's a pic of a custom made one on an MG.

if i were to make an adaptor plate to fit a w58 bellhousing on my r154, how would i go about locating the input shaft exactly on the engine crank axis?

thats why ive mapped out the two over the top of each other then sent it off to get milled out of a single block of alloy.
i havnt chased them up yet as im too busy with customers cars to do my own.

you might also need to map out the front bearing plate and check it against the hole in the W5x bearing.

ive tried a w5x bellhsouing on a r154 and the bearing plate clashes

with the adapter being 32mm thick there is more than enough meat to mill out the offending areas. already spotted that one when i was measuring everything up.

we traced everything on a mill and plotted all areas that needed attention as well as lining up the verticals of the 2 boxes and there layshaft positions so when the 2 were overlayed the shifterhousings will be on the same angles.

i can't begin to tell you how much of a PITA it was to do but hey i tried offering those cocks @ dellow and crs $300 to send me there maps overlayed in a cad prog but they wouldnt do it so F*#K them i did it myself and out of principal will never buy a single item off them again.

thats my rant for the evening

ill try to get back on them soon but im currently to busy trying to finish 5 customers cars in the next 4 weeks ( all engine conversions that need to be finished turnkey as well as a whole heap of little jobs in the time i have spare)

    cheers

edit: the reason i said roughly $350 before was the plate and a modded carier to suit + all bolts and washers, trust me if you got it done as a 1 off id be guessing at alot more but if it all works out easy it will be cheaper just not sure by how much. got to get the first one done to know a definate price.

yeh i havent got a reply so fuck em'

however i was playing with engine/bellhousing/gearbox combos last night and i may be able to get away with using the 1JZ bellhousing on the 3RZ. the 2 top holes line up already and with a rough measurement it seems the the input shaft will be lined up corectly with the crank . i would need to also make a thin spacer between the engine and bell but there is nothing to that. also mod 2 of the holes and the starter motor section in the bell

just make sure you line the input shaft up properly, there are easy ways and hard ways to do this but what i would do is run from the centre of the crank to each bolt in the block and then go bak to the gearbox and do the same.
if its a 154 bell your using your other prob is you will need a pulltype clutch or a pull/push converter both of these will be expensive items to buy so if your not in a major rush ill get mine sorted within the next month.

i might not need one now.

the new 2.7 vvti hilux runs a R150 and the engine side of the bellhousing pattern looks identical to the 3RZ .

shaft length might be different but thats solved with a 32mm spacer, no bearing retainer clashing .

    will confirm 100% tomorow

How did you go with this in the end?

I'm about to throw an R154 into my VK Commdore (currently has a W58), and I really don't feel like paying CRS $600 for a new bellhousing!

I've tried PMing Ed a few times to see if he has any plans for an adaptor, but I never hear back from him

    It went nowhere.
Instead they designed adaptors to suit the Toyota auto bellhousings to both W5x and R154's.

These conversions are becoming more and more popular these days, and the boxes are getting more and more expensive!

We do Hydraulic bearings which will fit onto the W5X and R154 boxes, along with custom clutch setups:
