Yes Josh it is an issue but to be honest i really dont believe this was caused due to the boost, the previous owner of my car really did not look after it too well which i found out shortly after purchasing the car the oil was thick and gluggy and it started making noises in the lifters/buckets shims etc etc.
Did 2 good oil flushes and managed to save it for a while bot all i really did was prolong the inevitable.
Just another side note i didnt run it at 17psi all the time only when i wanted the extra power but it was a safe boost pressure for the stock fuel maps. The last thing also being the car has done 194,000km which is a fair bit so a tired engine and worn rings is kinda expected by this stage.

Gary it seems that we're both prolonging the inevitable with our engines right now, mine just rolled over 263k and it's tired; fuel-efficient (surprisingly), but very tired. trying to stop it burning through so much oil so it's on 20W/60 and the results are good so far. on 20W/50 it would have drunk half of it by now.

    anyways back on topic...

It may not have specifically been boost that caused the problem but it will have been detonation, and the biggest cause of detonation in a turbo car is excessive boost. Unless something else is seriously damaged like the dodgy fuel pump that leaned mine out and stuffed piston number 3.

the figures i posted in the other thread were from testing a few weeks ago but a test i did quite a long time ago showed cylinder 3 at 115psi so its been a long term problem but i do agree with you most commonly it is due to detonation but in this case i believe it was more due to the engine just being tired more than anything else
