I was sent a pair of R33 claimed calipers from someone off SAU the other day that look the same as the R32 GTR? Maybe some model R33's have the R32GTR calipers?

AFAIK this is 100% correct. Some are swapped over by owners in Japan.
G'day, just found this (don't know what took me so long).
A couple of things I picked up reading through this and it may change from state to state.
1. QLD engineers require a single solid spacer for the calipers. Alloy or steel is fine.
2. The wheel spacer I saw in one of the photos is illegal in QLD. It may be possible to get a space engineer approved. I've heard rumors that if it is a solid piece that bolts to the hub and has its own studs you may be able to get it engineered. I personally don't want to use them whether they're legal or illegal.
I'll be putting photos up of my new braided lines when I take the wheels off later this week if anyones interested in seeing what it looks like when the braided line goes directly to the caliper.
The backing plate is not required. Its main function is to keep heat in the bakes (this was straight from the engineers mouth).

if you bolt them straight to the back of the caliper make sure that if you use a banjo fitting (most will) that the back of the caliper where the copper washer sits is flat otherwise fluid will piss out everywhere, also make sure the supplied bolt for the banjo isnt to long as the 4 pots will have an inverted seat in them that may not let the bolt crush the washers correctly.Originally Posted by 1JZ~lux
also if you remove the backing plate good luck stopping in wet conditions as it cools the disc off too much and wont have the initial bite that you would normally expect.

I've driven in wet weather over the last few days and have no problems with stopping. I only said about the backing plates for information. It makes sense about the stopping in the wet though as the wet, cold conditions would cool the brakes quicker but it comes down to individual driving styles and driving to the conditions. I'll say no more on this otherwise I'll get angry (so many stupid drivers).

1jz lux, why is the spacer illegal in qld, ill be using them anyway, why would they see a problem with them?, is it at the engineers discression(sp), or written in the rules?

I will be doing this conversion very soon.
Although I have looked at a few different ways of doing it.
My main concern is the wheel studs and or the use of those wheel spacer things that just increas the wheel track. I figure 10mm for the rotor and 25mm for the spacer = 2" wider track.
Anyway I have looked at using the BA wheel studs.
This will lockate the rotor as it should be and then there is no needfor the 3mm spacer ring.
After some checking BA studs only have a .7mm larger knurl.
So by removing old studs and drilling Hilux hub to 14.4mm the BA stud can be pressed in place.
This will also make the job way cheaper as a stud and nut kit is only $90.00.
The spacer ring would cost $30 - $40 and the wheel spacers are around $90 upwards depending on quality.
Also if needed the BA studs can be had up to 73mm long. For those thicker wheel centers.
The othe avenue I will look at is using BA stubs. The two things to look at will be bearings (hilux bearings in the BA hub) and offset.
Any thoughts and feed back would be great.
When the jobs done I will post the outcome with pics...

I have a few questions about this setup as I'm going to be changing to this instead of the R32GTS-t so I will be able to fit some legal wheels on again.
1. What size steel rim will fit over this setup? Will a 15x8 falcon steelie fit?
2. Can someone confirm that the spacer ring is 3mm thick? What hight does it need to be?
3. Is there any machining required?

15s can fit but it depends on the inner shape of the rim,
spacer ring hight of 8mm with a bevel cut into the back should be fine.
then the 8mm caliper spacer to suit the different hat hight.

I actually found your thread just after posting in here. I need to ask the engineer that I'm using if he has a problem with billet hubs first and if he doesn't then I'll be using them.

Hey Peter I was just looking at the DBA catalogue and it has the BA rotor at 298x28mm and the R33 GTSt 296x30mm. How are yours going? Is the size difference giving you any hassles?
