Make sure the vent in the top of the housing isn't blocked, maybe it's popping out due to the housing pressurising.
I have just got my car on the road and it has a new hilux diff. I replaced the wheel bearings and oil seals but I have found the drivers side seal likes to migrate outboard and therefore the diff leaks! Firstly I will try and use some sealant on the seal to keep it in position as I really couldnt be stuffed removing the axle and pressing the bearings out just to replace the seal!
Has anyone else had this problem?

seen this happen with a midly bent housing.
have you checked its straight?
It was straightened prior to installation. The seal was migrating even before I installed the diff. I put few small squirts of silicone on the seal hoping it would stay in there. Looks like it didnt work![]()

Well what do you know i am having the very same prob(dvr side),i also replaced the (inner oil seal)but it still seeps!
Is there a outer seal past the bearing? Also how do you clear breather bell on top of the diff?
This is a bitch cos it drips on to the disc and makes handbraking interesting!!!
Cheers Guy
amon - hilux diff?

err yeah sorry about that yes its a hilux diff!!
Isnt there only 1 oil seal and an o-ring? The Oil seal is outboard of the bearing and the o-ring is the seal between the housing and the bearing retainer? I have found that the breather differs between models. I have a housing that has the breather on the other side but the housing im using has the breather on the exhaust side. My car is not overly low so im not having big issues with the breather hitting the exhaust. However I have a few small marks from some small contact. When I remove the centre and change ratios I will plug the breather and move it to the other side.
I have also been doing some research to keep the seal from migrating. Loctite makes an instant adhesive and is said to be ideal for bonding metal to rubber called Instant Adhesive 480 - Black, toughened. If I can find someone who sells it, I will give it a go.

ah yes the o ring i have gone the RTV sikaflex route and i think getting an o ring in there will/should/hope to stem the leak.
My car is quite low but does not hit near the breather,as for getting it off or clearing it of blockage(possibly with compressed air and a hose over it)i am going to go have a look at it today,i need a good h/brake!!
cheers Guy
