    Default gurgling dash mx83

    Hi all

anyone else had issues with a gurggling dash on start up with the mx 83 cressida. a buddy of minehas one and his dash gurggles.

the head gasket appears ok judging by the oil and rad fluid.

i have noticed the heater hose above the no 6 spark plug on the passenger side of centre on the fire wall has a crack and is wheeping water into the no6 spark plug but i dont think thats it, (its getting fixed though).

i dont recall mine doing it back in the day, this is still 7m by the way, would it just be an air bubble?

    any thoughts

    cheers

most likely air in the system. Replace the hose, bleed the system. The air bleeds out a lot easier if you remove the hose from the heater tap until coolant comes out of it. I usually loosen the clamp and twist the heater hose towards the edge of the plastic tap pipe, then pry the top edge of the hose away from the tap and you will hear the air escape through the small gap produced until coolant appears.

Has worked for me on many occasions.

gurgling dash is air in the core, USUALLY BHG but not always.

also, best way to tell for BHG is to fill the rad up to the very top, and watch for fine bubbles.

i had 5 T-K tests done on my 7M, all passed, when i took the head off the motor, the headgasket was leaking in ~11 places.

replace any hoses/lines that are dodgy, and fit proper, quality hose clamps, park the car facing up a hill (rad highest point) and fill it up that way, be sure to rev the engine hard, and stab the throttle to get the bubbles out.

if that top heater hose has a slow leak, that can cause the gurgle. my last 7m did it for a little while, and it turned out that the hoseclamp on that pipe was loose, so taht's where the air was getting in.

that engine didn't have bhg, was just air getting into the system as coolant leaked out. Found where it was leaking, tightened clamp, bled system, and no more gugling dash.

I had gurgling dash on the 1JZ cressy for a few months, just seemed to go away by itself, I'm assuming an air pocket.

Low water causes this but BHG 99% does this , even just a slight BHG will do it

Yeah, checking the oil and radiator fluid is not a guarantee you don't have a BHG, it depends exactly where the headgasket let go and how bad it is. I'd be getting the coolant checked for combustion by-products (forget the name of the test), it's quick and easy to do and that's a surefire way of detecting a BHG.

Fix the heater hose... if water can come out air can definitely get in. That'd be your first port of call in trying to find the problem. When the car cools down it sucks air in through the cracked hose and that's what causes the gurgle. Fix the hose, if it doesn't have a BHG then i'll bet the gurgle will go away.

Another possibility is that the head is a bit dodgy and has hot spots in it which boils the coolant causing air that way. I think that's what my head was doing and that's why it was continually blowing gaskets. In the case of your mate, i'd guess it's not that though and more likely the split hose.

Dad's 92 Liberty gugrles too - and it's been running perfectly fine for years. You guys make me worrk though because mine's started to gurgle a bit but I just assmed it was when I fitted the turbo coolant lines I think so air got in. I filled up the rad a couple of days ago and it hasn't done it yet.

If you have air in the system it is easy to bleed by elevating the front of the car on ramps etc and warming it up with the cap off. then when the thermostat opens all the air will come out very easily. Dont forget to turn you heater on when you do this.

I spent years trying to bleed mine without success before I replaced the head gasket . After fixing the head gasket the air bled out in 2 minutes and never returned. And no more gurgling dash.
