my ra23 does this when its cold. have let it warm up, and its good, have been told its the ecu settings.
I know its a mr2 3s but a turbo pipe came loose and it did similar things, started ok and idled but as soon as you moved the throttle it started to die badly and stalled not long after.
If its kind of AFM related you might have a leak somewhere between the afm too intake manifold gasket to block.
who said you couldnt make a ae86 rear quarter outa bog, fibreglass and expanding foam!!

if you've had to change the radiator fluid to put the chemi-weld in then this could be the problem..
assuming your VL has a rb30 in it. you can get airlocks in the coolant galleries when you change fluids which could overheat and give you a warped head, which is common for the VL rather than in the rb30 running skylines as the radiator is situated a tad higher in the skyline (from what i've been told).
my 5cents.
good luck. hopefully your problems aren't too drastic
