this is a point that id particluarly like to see addressed as i do agree the value for non nsw sydney metro members is defiantelly limited at best as they effectivelly are cut off from the birthplace of this car club...

i do agree with your point to a point, there should be some transparency in order for accountability for actions (which the whole rep system is designed around) and there should be a sticky in order for negitive reps being able to be questioned in an appropiate manner
a point ive made in another thread is that id also like a pm reply as well as a breif version public reply in order for the user to know when a response is made due to the time contraints and users know the status of issues relating to their fellow peers...

but the way you talk, all your interested in is your own little car club to meet up with the guys every month.
I think you need to understand that the Toymods Car Club doesn't care if only 1,000 odd are on this site. It exists for Club Members and is funded by Club Members and therefore the only people who really count are club members. As a bonus, the rest of the general public get to register for the forum as well. As has been stated they want this to be a technical forum. As a bonus, if you reach a certain position (let's call it, instead of rep) you are also allowed to post in the for sale section. Why? Because you have made a positive contribution to the forum. It is a privelege and not a right unless you're a member. If it were my board then I'd be very pissed at all the people who registered on the previous forum who can barely speak English just to flog off their parts wasting my bandwidth and cluttering up my board.

As for the last bit, "all you're interested in is your own car club", well that's all they're obligated to be interested in.

Very well put. I would say however that while there were ~13000 members of the old forum that was all of the people who had joined in the life of that forum, there is almost 2000 members of this forum in the short period it has been open. The quality of the threads generated by the members of this forum easily makes the reduction in numbers of members a moot point when it comes to being a useful resource. The issue isn't that we only care about the club members, club members get full rights to the site because they are the ones providing it. The issue is that we don't give full access to just anyone who wants it, we actually want people to make a useful contribution to the community, is this really such a problem.

it appeared as though the moderators on here cared about helping people out with a hobby that everyone enjoys... but the way you talk, all your interested in is your own little car club to meet up with the guys every month.

this is all i will say on the subject.
What has changed here? The moderators are exactly the same people as they were on the old forum. The aim of the moderators in running the forum is exactly the same as it was before. The ability to implement the aims of the forum has just improved.

The forum is useful because people can learn here. They can then go to the classifieds and buy parts, safe in the knowledge that people who can advertise there have been around the forum for some time contributing or are members of the registerred club which provides this resource to you.

If your real bitch is that you want to post in parts wanted, then go and post there. Parts wanted has been open for anyone to post in for the last week or so.

I'd just like to respond to this part of the thread from earlier as it has been bought up repeatedly by some people. Now I know I have said it repeatedly but the Toymods Car Club does not want people to join the club to get more access to the forums, we want people that want to be a member of the club to join.

The cost of the membership isn't really flexible, last time I checked the club was making a loss on every new member sign-up. The fact that a member is not from NSW does not in any way make it cheaper for the club. We still have to pay the same amount for liability insurance for every member no mater where they are from etc. On top of this we actually have increased costs because we have to post any merchandise to members who do not attend meetings etc. In reality other than merchandise the only financial thing that members get other than sponsor discounts, is discounted rates for events compared to non-members, if you never attend events then this is a redundant point.

We make no bones about the fact that the club is based in Sydney. We do not claim or imply that joining the club will help out of state people have more Toyota Events or anything like that. We do welcome people that want to be members from anywhere around the world to join, but in the end it is their decision to join. Honestly I can't believe the number of members from outside NSW that we have and it makes me proud that people out of NSW think the club is a good enough thing that they want to be a member. If the benefits of joining are not worth the money to you then simply do not join. This has nothing to do with where you're from, it's simply reality.
