...and then someone must weigh a 2JZ to find out if they really are boat anchors

I'd also be very interested to know how accurate those interweb figures are for the 2jz, and what they include. anyone have a 2j lying around they want to donate to Mos for a day?

    Hey Mos,
I have figures for you for the early 1UZ and the iron block 2UZ. These are toyota engineering specs...not glossy hype but the tech specs for their in house engineers. The 2UZ WITH oil and coolant comes in at 245kg...that's iron block!! The 1UZ was 190kg.

These are sans flywheel as have flex plates so that would add a few kg.....must be a bit of weight hiding in the VVT system?

where these with or without the ancilarys, an a/c pump probably weighs 6kgs then all the mounts, p/s pump, alt, manifolds etc.
they may be 5kgs different but i doubt 30 odd kgs.

Complete assembly including exhaust manifolds, shields etc etc

Wondering how accurate that strain gauge was calibrated?

Just checked the 2UZ VVT versus non VVT and ytou are bang on Roadrunner - 5kg difference.

1UZ versus VVT 1UZ has potential weight difference in the inlet manifold as well as the VVT one is much larger/higher. Again guessing around the 5-10kgs.

Still missing a few kgs though eh?

    Cool, thanks for that Justen.

Now I really have to find one to weigh Linden, can "we" visit SSS?

The gauge is less than 10 months old so I would have to assume it's within cal. I don't have 200L of water either to check it

Curious why you have weights of all those but not the VVTi 1UZ .. do you have the 3UZ?

I'll ask the guy...he has access to some amazing data. A point of clarification, the info is from SAE papers so it's gospel.
