I know a lot of you guys build the most amazing custom brake setups for the early model Celica's, BUT is there a kit out there? My old girl badly needs new pads and rotors and my local workshop told me a NSW company makes a custom "big brake package" for around $1500.00 I dunno if there is any truth in the mater so I thought I would ask the Toymoders.

The only place i'm aware of that sell complete upgrades (don't know if they have for ta22) is Hoppers stoppers - http://www.hoppers.com.au/

is the rona pug hilux upgrade outta the question? its not what i would call "big" but it is very effective, it can all be had for about 500 bucks
a rough breakdown of it is $70 for struts, 70 for calipers, 200 for disks and 16 a side for bearings ..... i think that what i paid..... but yeah you could get a workshop to do it but thats just a waste of money cos its all relatively easy
A full bearing kit is considerably more than $16? And you'd be very lucky to get the calipers that cheap... And then you have to fart around with either swapping spring mounts and shocks, or running coilovers. Odds are you'll buy new shocks and springs, which adds to the price alot.
I don't disagree with you, its much better bang for buck - but its no use making out that it will cost SFA![]()

Here is a price breakdown for a Hilux/Pug conversion we did not long ago and the prices that the average person (non-trade) would have to pay:
Calipers in good condition = $120
New Pads = $80
Caliper rebuild kit = $60
Struts = $50
Disc rotors plain (Brembos) = $220
New brake lines (rubber) = $40
coil over kit = $220
new shocks to fit struts = $200
spacer for shock/strut = $20
coil over springs = $120
wheel bearings and hub seals = $50
New high tensile steel caliper mounting bolts and spring washers = $10
Brake fluid = $10
Miscellaneous cleaning and painting = $20
Wheel alignment after the whole setup is completed = $45
Obviously depending on how rigorous you want to be with the setup you may or may not do some of the above items.
But as Bardin pointed out, it's not a $2 job either way.
Oh and the other thing to realise is that in some cases the offset may change enough that your wheels won't fit (they'll hit the guards).

i didnt include shocks in that..... and wheel bearings only cost me 32 for both sides and just toyota at ashmore gave me the calipers at a good price (LN130 calipers, they have quite a few pairs down there) and 35 a side they may need a rebuild but generally are in good nick
i did say i would cost round 500 bucks yes? that to me isnt SFA and a long way from $2
Most deifinitely, I just thought it'd be good to post up a comprehensive list so the guy can think about what he wants to do, it's all the little things that people often overlook that get expensive.Originally Posted by skiddz
Like the fact that going form stock to the hilux pug setup alters the offset required for your wheels, I have not seen many/any people mention that when they talk about the upgrade but it is something to be aware of if you're already running wide rims.
Prices do vary a lot too, from wrecker to wrecker and parts place to parts place, even between Toyota spares.

I just rang Hopper Stopper, they quoted $1400 for the 290mm DBA slotted/drilled package , $50 freight, $200 for a new 1 inch bore master cyclinder. Sounds good to me.
I'm using 15x7 Performance Challenger rims, standard stud pattern, I hope they still fit as my car is painted and I'm not touching those guards.

You are going to have issues fitting 290mm discs under 15"s
298mm discs only fit under 16s.

Its just research at this stage. I have to go back to work in 3 weeks so nothing will happen till I return in early July. I wil get one of their kits but will speak to my suspension/brake guys at Caboolture first. I will post the pics here with a full story including pricing. No doubt it will turn into a big drama with stuff all change out of 2 grand by the time its fitted etc. The old Celica fights me every inch of the way these days.

thanks guys I have a starting point now
Why bother with having to fight it when the Corona Peugot Hilux setup will give you more than adequate braking performance, and cost a quarter of the price. Your 15" rims WILL fit underneath it.

takai i have 310 mm rotors under my 15inch mags
Yeah, with lowline brakes i bet. I sincerely doubt that they will supply those for $1400Originally Posted by Celica RA45

They state on their webpage that 15inch rims will over their 290-300mm brake kits.
