    Default 4a w5x clutch options

hi all, im getting ready to put a w5x box into my sprinter, but im undecided about what to do about a clutch, i plan to use the 225mm flywheel as my 215mm button is starting to slip < 6months old!

but obviosly i need a clutch, i was wondering is it posible to simply mix and match clutch plates? like can i order the excedy heavy duty pressure plate to suit the 4agze 225mm fly wheel like so
    http://www.exedy.com.au/catalogue-de...sp?id=39001825

and use something like this for the clutch plate?
    http://www.exedy.com.au/catalogue-de...sp?id=39000687
this should have the right input shaft spline for the w5x right?

im sure there are a hundred other things to consider but if somone could point me in the right direction that would be great

The GZE clutch plate will fit the W box spline, so that part is easy. However, I haven't seen any of the GZE type pressure plates that have ever overly impressed me personally - I'd suggest you do what I did several years ago and get a flywheel made up to suit a commonly available pressure plate with decent clamp. Probably best talking to a few of the better recognised clutch places, and seeing what they can offer and for what price.

FWD 4AGZE boxes share input shaft spline dimensions with W5* boxes. So just use a clutch to suit the flywheel you have. The centre splines will match your box anyway (the 29.8 x 21 for spline diameter and teeth should be the same for both on the pages linked, they must have made a typo)

But in any case, if the clutch place you get your stuff through can't sort this out for you then find another clutch shop.

Try to bring the box if you can. You will probably need patience though cause when i was there, heaps of customers came in.

Hmmmmm, will the 4A to W5 bellhousing ALLOW a 225mm clutch? I know all the factory rwd 4a bells will NOT allow the 225, you can fit the 212 as you already know. If you are slipping on the 212, I'd look for a better clutch... plenty of options out there, from better friction discs to upgrading pressure plate spring pressures

If its a Nite parts bellhousing than YES....... but only just. You may or may not need to linish the inside of the housing a little.

Mine fouled in one spot which i was told would prob happen but a little work with the dyna file fixed that.
I also took a little off of the pressure plate....... youll know where when you fit it.
cri-ag : prob worth a trial fit of just the bell housing to check you have clearance if you havent already.

In short yes the fit....... Id call it a comfortable squeeze

Im only aware of the nite parts bellhousing fitting the big flywheel in........ and like i said only just.

Not sure what you mean by " The 230 mm fly ... hows that go inside?

Allegedly the GZE came with 2 flywheels, 224mm (more common I think) and 230mm.

I'm unsure of change date or reason for it.

Ahh ok .. 225 for the biggest one and the other is the 212mm

I had wondered what the 230mm was about. I thought he might of had a custom flywheel or something like that

Any difference in response between 212mm and 225mm? I was worried about going to the 225 cos they are a lot heavier...
