Members with rep less than zero

I have noticed we have a member on these forums who has a rep of -59... yes NEGATIVE 59. I was wondering what the hell that person did to get -ve repped so badly. But it appears the person has only made 4 posts in total. (Noting I have no way of telling if any of his/her posts have been deleted).

The only thing I can see that the user has done that people didnt like was a very strangely modified car he purchased and put up pics of. I dont think too many people like it.

What I am wondering is, did this guy deserve it? Perhaps he has done something that I dont know of to deserve it, but what if he hasnt? Seems really unjust and honestly if people on toymods were neg repping him for his car, then well I would be really disgusted we have such foul people on here

I understand it probably very difficult for mods to monitor rep, but its really unfair if people are abusing the rep system and using their rep power to neg rep easy targets who dont have much rep to start with.

And I was also thinking if he had done something really bad, wouldnt he just get banned? Ive seen that happen before....

(But if this person deserved it then I rest my case )

If he has been -repped for no real reason they can be reversed but We would have to know the full story basially.

There is a user that is on Low rep because he posted a thread asking for rep. that thread has now been deleted and he stayed in HOPE he will make up for it and earn his rep back.

Banning usually only happens if a user CONTINUALLY breaks the rules and doesn't learn from his/her mistakes.

And I didn't even get to see the post or apply any -ve rep, not that I would of having seen how far below zero he's gone.

When required, I beleive in a respectable slapping of -ve rep, but sometimes ppl get a bit wild and gang up and smack them senseless, where their reps so far down that recovery is all but lost.

He's lucky the post was deleted or he'd probably still be copping it.

Seriously, if I see someone getting hammered (I think) unfairly, I'll give them back some +ve so they don't just leave the site. You never know, they might have just the bit of information you need to finish your car...

Indeed. -ve rep is half your +ve rep. I don't get many complaints when I +ve rep someone, but they cry like little girls when they cop some -ve rep.

I could -ve rep someone then when able to (due to the rep time/number limit) give them +ve rep - so ultimately you award them half your +ve rep. However, they don't like getting the -ve in the first place and complain to the mods when it happens, so doing it that way is not good.

Still, I'd much prefer a variable-rep system where I can allocate from 1 to max rep for either +ve or -ve rep. 'Cos there's many a time where someone needs just a -ve tickle and not a baseball bat, and times when someone deserves a little extra but not a fistful of +Ve rep. In a way, it makes those of us with high rep to not give (or take) rep as much as we'd like.

also, what's the amount of rep before a ban is in place?

Kirsty already said it, I guess you cant be banned for low rep, only for breaking the rules (which is usually the reason why you end up with low rep anyway)

This roof87 guy is also pretty low, but rollin takes the cake. Most of the time u can't see their posts because theyve been deleted but chances are they deserved the neg rep.

You guys have to remember that some people cop a huge amount of Neg rep for 1 mistake.

It depends on how many people get to it before we do.

The person in question (from the start of the thread) made 1 mistake. A bad one and has been dealt with so now he has a chance to rectify his actions.

I'll have to have a bit of a look at the others to work out whats going on with them though.
