Are you talking about on the carbs, on the balance tube on the manifold or both?

Hey all. Pretty specific request. I have a pair of Solex sidedrafts which, according to my research, came off a 18RG out of a RA40. Which means, I guess, that these are the last generation carbs of this type... I digress. Basically, I'm looking for a picture or diagram that shows where the various (now crimped) vacuum lines go in order to give the impression that any emission control hardware still works. Someone?
cheers!

On the carbs themselves, but pretty much anything re the emission controls for this model/engine/carbs. I'd like to make it look as legal as possible!
cheers

How many points do you have to find a home for? Is it a cast alloy balance tube from manifold 88250 or later?
Here's what we did to satisfy the same urge to pass inspection.
- Large screw in point, top of balance tube - Thermo actuated little brown valve in balance tube (originally bracket mounted to carby and linked to balance tube via hose).
- Very large point on side of balance tube - Anti-dieseling valve end hose. (big ugly valve from on top of tappet cover).
- Press fitted large tube on centre-top of balance tube - Vacuum actuated electro-switch (from YH61 hiace) hose attached. The electrics are run from the 18R-C choke warmer cable, which has been extended.
- Large screw in point, top of balance tube - brake booster. (access hole to allen key fastener was used to mount this large point).
Small vacuum points - balance tube (some screw in, I think 1 x press in)
- Vacuum advance
- Vacuum guage
Bottom of balance tube
- PCV vent in block, via 1 way valve
- The other bottom point went to the EGR originally, but good luck finding the EGR system, no-one can see the bottom points, so you might as well permenantly block those.
Don't use temporary caps as they fall off and you get a massive vacuum leak that makes the car undrivable.
PCV outlet on tappet cover (centre of cover) goes to the air box, as does the carbon canister.
If you've got the carbies with the many bolt (more than 2 bolts) jet covers, then you'd have upto five extra points to cover with caps. They are for tuning, except the rearmost one that sticks out the back side of the rear carby, on those carbies, that point is for the carbon canister.
If you have any questions, please ask, as I'm sure that will be even more confusing for you trying to read it than it was for me trying to write it.

Yep, totally confused! Mostly because I don't have a balance tube, and the vacuum pickups on the carbs appear to be for vacuum advance, not emissions! These are on a Redline 4AG manifold... I'm hoping that, on a 4AFC block & appropriate 'looking' emission control hardware I can pit it with a twin carb engine... may have to consult River's excellent diagrams further, though a pic of a factory 18RG or 2TG with all this hardware would be very nice!
cheers!

Check out Roger's Site.
It has a lot of good info about Solex's... in particular working out which type of carb you have.

Hmmm. The balance tube thingy is starting to make sense. I may just have to pit it as is and see if they have any qualms with the carbs. This picture of Toyman's Celica bay doesn't show anything, and I'm assuming it was licensed like that... must get me one of those factory aircleaner / sumps though! Roger's site has been very useful thus far, and my carbs are almost certainly among the last of the PHH40 type Ts.
Cheers Lads!
