ay i've got my hands on a set of corona struts which need a new set of inserts and i was wondering what inserts and what springs to use. the car that they're going into is a ke55.
i figure you still use standard corona inserts but im not positive. also, what springs do i use for it?
the corona strut still has the standard spring perch on it, which i think needs to be replaced with the spring perch of whatever spring is going in??
cheers

My KE30
Updated 15/7/2007............ yes, I need to pull my finger out.
The standard extended length of the KE30/55 and RT132 assemblies is pretty much the same. So you can use the standard RT132 insert if you want to maintain pretty much standard ride height.Originally Posted by caibs
If you go down more than a couple of inches and you're having issues with the spring not staying captive at full droop, you can use a shorter insert with a spacer in the top of the strut tube under the gland nut, or alternatively shorten the strut to suit a shorter insert. I have heard of RAV 4 and SW20 rear inserts being used before but you need to do a bit of research with the Monroe catalogue and decide which one works best for your application.
As for springs and spring seats I think the RT132 springs will not fit in the KE30 tower and would be too long perhaps anyway. At the very least you will need to change the spring seats and run narrower springs, for ready tunability and margin for error in spring choice I'd do what I have done and fit a pair of Koni coilover sleeves and hats which will allow you to buy generic spring pairs in a variety of lengths and rates and also helper or tender coils to keep the assembly captive under full extension.
Hope this helps and is not too hard to understand.
thanks man i really apreciate the extent of your reply. i've done some thinking and head scratching and rang up a guy whos in the know and i'm thinking that if i do it i'll do it properly and bang some coilovers in there. so far i've been quoted abour $600 for a coilover setup and a further ~$340 or so for some koni inserts which is not bad at trade price i reckon. what i'm unsure about, is that i can get a set of monroe inserts for $150 thru work, i dont know if the bloke was just trying to sell me expensive koni's or if they're actually worth the extra cash money
well konis arent the bees knees
but dont get monroes!
