Hi everyone
Having recently fitted an HKS Twin Plate Cluch to my Soarer 1JZ I found I had a few issues from the outset of running it. Thought it might be a usefull thread as I could'nt find anything by googling over the past few weeks. So I fixed the issues & thought I'd post em up.
Firstly Assembly: Its the same for a twin/triple the outer springs on the additional pressure plates have to be orientated in such a way that when the clutch is released they push away from the friction plate so it does'nt drag (I found out the hard way)
This dragging of the clutch actually caused my pull mechanism to wear & fail, or the C Clip to be precise, the clip is all that stops the pull mechanism & my dragging made it spin & the clip wore down the pull body until it fell off. Not very good especially when it does it the night before a D1 Drift round & it put me out of action after I'd qualified for the top 16.![]()
What wears out the C clip works its way off the end & hey presto no clutch!
Modifying the pivot point: The HKS unit comes with its own pull assembly, however you can use the original one you just need to space out the pivot assembly with some washers & longer bolts![]()

I recently had a HKS twin plate set up by a well recognised local clutch specialist [jim berry] and he removed these "spacer springs" completely. From memory i believe he said they are likely to fall off and damage the clutch?
So you modified the stock pull unit to work effectively? thats good as that is all i have.

I wll be asking Jim about your C clip woes.thanks for sharing the info.
