Just Y piece them after they come out of the tank and run a single line or run dual inlets and a centre return fuel rail.
Yeh its a manual..
See all these arguments are the same ones I had in my head and thus couldnt draw a strong conclusion on which way to go.. I would like to run a surge tank but it just comes down to placement, might jack the car up and see if there is anywhere I could possible fit it as I really dont like the idea of having it in the boot!!
The car may have the occasional run but will just be a tuff streeter, running the pumps inline would be my favoured choice but I think the std pump would become to much of a restriction.
Running two intank pumps like jampac said might be another ok option? only problem would be mounting.... How do you run the fuel lines for a dual pump setup?
Marc,
Just Y piece them after they come out of the tank and run a single line or run dual inlets and a centre return fuel rail.
Just found the other thread that was posted a few weeks back
http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=23421
After reading that and also the info on the supra forum, they have had pretty good success with converting the 044 to run intank. I like this idea as it will keep noise down and keep the fuel system neat.
And without a surge tank aslong as you dont let the tank run low, if it has a good pickup the chances of leaning out are pretty slim!
Marc,
The other advantage of using walbro pumps is they are very small, so you could hose clamp them together between some fuel resistant rubber on the same pump craddle. That's pretty much what I'll be doing, then just y piece them together like Chris said. I've heard that 044 are very noisy even when mounted in a tank. This why I went with a walbro, they are not much louder than a stock toyota pump.

if your planing on it going fast in a straight line, stick to just upgrading the fuel pump, and make sure you dont run your tank too empty.

I've got an in-tank 044 installed in my car - not too many dramas to get it in. will be able to tell you about the noise in a week or 2 hopefully![]()
Ok so I dropped the fuel tank and pulled the fuel pump out last night and this is what it looks like.
The current std pump's dimensions are [55mm Wide X 135mm Long]
I found the dimensions of a Bosch 044 which are [60mm Wide X 190mm Long] the width is not a problem but the height may be, as you can see from the picture the metal pressure line leaving the top of the pump goes up for a little bit then shots of to the side. Now if I was to use the larger pump I would have to cut a fair chunk of the metal pipe back and use a length of rubber hose to make the bend, this should be ok provided I use good hose clamps shouldn’t it? Also the metal return line you can see going down by the side of the pump would also need to me adjusted as it bends across the top of the pump (so the longer 044 would hit this).
Does anyone know anything about the 040 internal pump (not the inline one) which I read a while back was the in tank version of the 044 but shorter height wise?? I had a Google but couldn’t find anything..
Marc,
what do you want to know about it? I used to run one. Don't have dimensions but I know it is a lot shorter than a stock jzx81 chaser pump and I think less width as well. I am pretty sure I have a comparison pic at home.
Well are they the same as the 044 ie. do they flow the same? Or are they just an intank equivalent of the inline 040?
040 intank doesnt flow as much as an 044.
by the look of that intank setup i would say it would be fairly time consuming to put an 044 in there. also remember that an 044 has 18x1.5 female thread on the inlet and 12x1.5 outlet so you'll be playing with a few fittings to get it done.
cheers
