What carby is this and would you use it???

I found this little teasure in the boot of a 28 I purchased recently. I also bought an 18RC off Jeffro to go in the car. Would it be worth my while putting this acrby on the motor after it is run in?

PS It don't fit the rider mowere but the neighbours don't know that.

Looks like a 40 or a 45, and they work allright on an 18r, I speak from experience, could go even better with a mild camshaft which cost me I think $60 exchange

Do these things have an affective choke? Not that it is a real problem in Rockhampton.

if it's a weber it'll have the model written on the top of the float bowl lid, on the filter side of the jet cap... see the image below for what i mean

Not sure that it is a Weber, pic isn't good enough.

Could be either a Weber, Dellorto or (Mikuni) Solex.

They're all pretty much the same in operation, but a Weber will be much easier to find parts for and someone who can tune it for you.

They're all pretty good for performance when set up properly, not so good for economy.

Looks like a neat setup with linkage and all complete. Nice find.
If you don't want it, you won't have a problem selling it.

i had no problems getting jets/kit etc for a delorto DHLA

and yes i would use it will sound nice

It should have something writen on the main cover, looks like a Weber which has lost its OEM jet cover. The bump in the top cover is the give away clue, the pump jet pump is under there.

They have a choke that works if the parts are there. Sometimes the choke mechanism gets removed and blanked off. I cannot tell that from the picture.

The best way to check the size is to remove the carby from the manifold and measure the bore diameter at the throttle plate.

Its a Weber, 100%, easy to tell even with that shitty pic. No way to tell what size it is though (unless you are actually prepaired to read the number stamped on the al casting!).
There seems to be no linkage to the choke position so its probably been ditched, but if ur running a single DCOE on a non-cross flow engine, you have a lot more to worry about.
Also cant tell how mis-matched all the jets and venturi's are.

Just stick it on untill the 18R-C dies and you can afford a 1G.

Redline still shows a kit available for the 18RC! K765. Here is a photo of Redlines kit... intake doesn't look the same... but angle are completely different

I think the other manifold is made for the american market, where they have a brake booster and master cylinder on that side of the engine bay... so they move the carby forward to account for it (same reason you cant use long runners on 18RGs in early celicas over here)
