Clutches worth looking into for both daily driver/track

Hey Im chasing an aftermarket clutch setup to go with my new 3sgte engine rebuild. I plan it to be a daily driver/track car so something that is good for both scenarios. The car should be putting down 200kw atw im hoping, if that affects the choice of clutch (im thinking button clutch?).

I know very little when it comes to clutches so any help is much appreciated!

you can get good clutchs made that arent button and will hold 200kw in a 3sgte as they dont have 5million pounds of torque, my 3sgte had a organic clutch with a hardish pressure plate and was fine on around those power figures. piece of piss to drive in traffic but bit down hard.

i got it from albion brake and clutch, but im not sure if id recomend them now im not having much luck at the moment with my new one. someone berry or soemthing i see lots of good feedback from that guy, someone else would be able to tell you who it is or search theres a whole thread about clutch shops.

There are also sprung puck type clutches out there.... Puck clutches tend to have the best hold/clamping capability, the sprung hub makes engagement something less than switch like.

Be careful with extra HD pressure plates.... ask the DSM 4G63 guys how HD pressure plates can cause crank walk........

sprung centre button/puck clutches gets my vote...

Enough slip for day/day driving, but bites hard enough for track use.
Once you get used to driving it, very very easy. All my cars have had a button clutch of some degree in them.


Although saying that, a Heavy Duty clutch would do the same job...

for daily/track as long as it can hold the torque you will be fine.

hwoever if you want to do drag racing, hill climbs etc where you need to give it a hard launch i would say a button would be a slightly better choice to the full face clutch.

I have recently gotten an Xtreme sprung centre 6 puck for my car, yet to drive it, but the guys ate Xtreme said they aren't as brutal as a lot of people will tend to tell you.

Thing is though, it mentions it includes a "Ultra heavy duty" pressure plate, does that sound a little full on for my power goals? I dont want the crank getting pulled out of the engine lol.

Also another Q, is my car being an AWD setup a factor that I should consider when choosing a clutch, or not?

I went for the Exedy Sports Tuff Cushioned button clutch in my Familia and its so damn light on the foot and bites hard , I do get a little shutter when taking off in day to day driving.

Yeah have a look at them, Im looking at getting one for the 3TGTE (when it happens )
Ive heard they are like a normal clutch on the street, but when they start to get warm, they get snappier.

ive got a cushioned exedy 5 puck.

bastard of a thing.

i wouldnt go anything less than a 6 puck, without savage clamping force on the pressure plate.

get something streetable, you dont need over the top stuff, and yes, AWD does make a massive difference in clutch choice.

sprung button, 5 puk exedy in my GT4 was like driving with a heavy duty clutch.

i bought a secondhand os giken twin diaphram single ceramic plate clutch with matching flywheel off ebay for $350.it was in real good nick and is real user friendly. until today .one of the tongs on the fork broke , bugger , anyways point is even in a 1680kg dc hilux 4x4 with a 1jz it didnt feel much different to the old diesel setup , so try ebay. cheers bigwad

Ive heard some dodgy things about the ebay clutches haha, not sure if Ill be buying from there.

Thanks again for all inputs, ill be keeping them in mind when I buy a clutch real soon.

Has anybody had any bad experiences with clutches, or know of a brand/type that have a name for breaking or having a negative about them, I wanna know which brands/types to avoid.
