I am not sure what Rod has done with his, but they should have an extra brace to the floor of the boot (I believe Bond has these also) or a brace across the underside and donw to the shock towers. Otherwise in a roll over these arms can punch through the parcel shelf and then the fuel tank.

well, good thing about a bolt in half cage is that there is only 4 mount points. you could make something up for a replacement parcel shelf if you don't want to ruin yours, and just flip the carpet up where it mounts to the floor.

at the end of the day it depends what you want one for. if it's safety then i wouldn't be too worried about damaging the interior. if it's just for looks it's probably a waste of money.

Naa definately not just for looks,id love the extra ridgidity but I have mint GT interior so there is no chance I am going to risk even anything leaning up against it creating indents and shizzle.

    Nathan,

The rear cage in mine cleared all the interior beautifully but the NSW regs state I had to remove the rear seat. My cage goes through the rear parcel shelf and down the chassis rails. It deffinatly stiffens up the car allot.

anyone ever bothered to weight, or work out how heavy a decent cage is?

as toyman mentioned they stiffen up the body for handling, but how would the extra weight go? i can only imagine the extra weight Vs the stiffness would sorta cancel each other out... but i'm just guessing...

a full cdw cage should only weigh about 40kgs and thats with a shit load of bracing.
if the fact it weighs this much cancels out any gain in stiffness (it wont but) your obviously not thinking of what a cage is actually there for.

and according to cams you must run a compulsory diagonal member from the top of the main hoop on the drivers side to the opposite side either bottom of backstay or main hoop .

this is not required by andra though.

why can't you then just sign a 'disclaimer' (don't you mean waiver?) and use none??

If a CAMS event requires a rollcage, you can only use an alloy cage if the car was built and issued with a CAMS log-book before the date on which alloy cages were banned (at least 5 years ago now)

Any new car must have a mild steel steel rollcage.Other materials (such as CroMo) have to be subject a CAMS engineering assessment which can cost $1000 or more just for the assessment.

Not sure about sprint etc where cages aren't required at all. The rules tend to get interpreted by the individual scrutineer checking your car on the day.

just had a read through cams rules regarding cages, and for events where a cage isn't compulsory, then clearly you don't need one, but if you do happen to have one i must be CAMS certified... can't just be a backyard jobbie...
