don't know price but last time i checked a bolt-in half cage was between $400-$600

in my state a half cage is legal as long as you change the rego to 2 seater and any part of the cage that is within 100mm of your head is padded.

Roll cages are legal, but you have to build it according to some regulations regarding clearances from the head, visability and ease of entry/egress. Provided the cage meets all these requirments you then have to get an engineering approval for rego. Im not sure on the price of a bolt in cage, but you can get one welded in for $1500+ and it will be much stronger than a bolt in cage. You cant get a cams certificate with a bolt in cage anymore, so if your planning on doing any racing a welded in cams approved cage is what you want.

Send me a PM if you'd be interested.

    Cheers,

    Imlach74,

You need to speak to your local registration body about what is and isn't required in Vic. In NSW there are guidelines in relation to the amount of head room and a TA22 just doesn't have enough to retain the back seat.

They do look cool tho and more importantly the stiffen up the body for awesome handling.

i just got on for teh 23, was $980 couried to the workshop,

6 point bolt in type from bonds roll bars,

    1/2 cage was $650 i think...

you then have option of harness bar $110 and side intrusion bars $110 also,

I was doing the Bathurst Light Car Club Speed Weekend, which is a Conrod Straight supersprint on the Saturday and a Mountain Straight hillclimb on the Sunday. Let's just say I didn't make the hillclimb....

The Supersprint is from about 300m below forest elbow on Conrod Straight, through the Chase, then Murrays and over the start line.

So I did my first run, a bit tentatively through the chase, but clean. On the Second run I came into the chase, probably doing 170-175km/h into the braking zone, jumped on the brakes, turned in and hit the ripple strip on the inside of the first left hander. The pics can show the rest.

    Pics continued next post

NOW GO GET ONE LIKE I DID

    imlach74,

My cage in my show TA-22 is a half (4point) Bond alloy cage, but at the time in the mid 80's we ordered ones that suit the RA-28. Reason being, we could place the rear legs down to the wheel arches and hence no compromise to the rear seating.

ACT rego wanted me to change to a type 2 Rally rego but after seeing the installation granted standard rego, meaning I can keep the rear seat and have rear passengers.

I'll post up a picture tonight as Image shack is not coming up on my work PC.

So I recommend getting a steel Bond 4 point that suits an RA-28.

    Regards
    Rodger

Vicroads has a .pdf regarding rollcage installation here.

The gist of it is that if it is well designed it shouldn't need any inspection or sign off to be legal. Though it seems almost inevtiable that it will need to become a 2 seater.

However please read the above document and call Vicroads/engineer/roadworthy person if something isn't clear.

Finally here is the RA-28 four point alloy Bond cage in my TA-22.

The legs as stated go down to the rear wheel arches and clears the rear passengers heads.
I am not sure what Rod has done with his, but they should have an extra brace to the floor of the boot (I believe Bond has these also) or a brace across the underside and donw to the shock towers. Otherwise in a roll over these arms can punch through the parcel shelf and then the fuel tank.

    Regards

    Rodger
