Default Lead stuck in distributor - UPDATE

picked up a set of leads to change on the 4A-GE smallport this morning.. first plug i pulled was the one i never touched, from the ignitor to distributor.. ignitor side came out fine, but the distributor side took a fair bit of tugging and pulling.. eventually it came out but this happened..

    SIDE VIEW

    TOP VIEW

OLD LEADS (with that piece broken off)

    NEW LEADS (brand spanking new)

can i just pull that piece that's stuck in there with brute force? or just ignore it? the new leads sits inside it nicely and the distributor doesn't shock me, car doesn't miss a beat, revs up fine etc etc... in fact it goes better than with the old leads, so i reckon the old leads were fucked to start with..

    any ideas? help? beer?

    cheers

if its works, dont fuck with it. then if in the future it starts to misfire youve got an easy first option.

Buy a new lead or even a set of leads. Not very expensive.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.

easy first option.. which is.....?? to replace distributor?

obviously a piece of the lead is stuck in the distirbutor.. but just pushing the new lead into it, it works fine..

my guess is.. that piece of the old lead is wedged into the distributor and seems to be stuck there.. no matter how hard i pull it's not coming out..

is it alright to leave it in there? will i ever need to pull that stupid piece out? if so, how?

    idiot.

Vios, grab pliers and wiggle around.
you might be able to stick small screwdriver in to try and push the tabs in (look at the new bit to see what i mean) and then it should come out easier.

    don't leave it in there...
keep wiggling till it comes out with a combination of finesse and brute force

change caps and get a new lead. even go to a custom place and ask them to put a connection on to fit the new dizzy cap.

i thought that piece was the end off the new lead!!!!

so u have brand new leads and they are intact.

the piece stuck in there is from the old lead. If you cant get it out, go to local autoshop tomorrow and get new cap.

small-port caps aren't easy to come by...

    will keep tugging i guess...

anything i can use like wd-40 or something? i mean 1mm in half an hour isn't exactly very promising... asian people make the weirdest grunting noise... and my neighbours are getting concerned over my swearing in different languages

ok, the tab looks like this (in ghey ascii format)

    ..____
    /.........\
    |..........|
    \_......_/ x

you need to bend in the bottom bits in toward the middle (the red bits)
those bits will be completely inside the hole.. by squeezing the bit stickign outside, it can help to push the tabs outwards....

get small screwdriver (like 1mm?) and put down the hole between the red tab and the outside (at the green x) and try tap the end of the tab in a bit...

    ie, look at attached pic

dude, just spray some wd40 in there (dont drown in), and get a pair of vise grips.

tighten the vice grips up like a bitch, and see if you can lever it out using a screw driver against the vise grips.

thats if stu's idea isnt possible.
