isn't airresearch and old garret trademark?
has anyone had anything to do with airresearch t04 turbo's?
was at my cousins work today and there was a heap of them off deisel engines there, most were t04 with a .60 a/r comp, couldnt see what the ex a/r was, twin entry ex housing, no internal wastegate.
doing some google searching now, seems they were used quite a lot.
isn't airresearch and old garret trademark?
from what i've found so far, yep.
thinking one might be good for the twincharge instead of useing the feral's t25, would have to build a new manifold though.....
they'll be a bush/sleeve bearing not roller so don't expect super-fast spools - tho being twin-charge that's probably not a big issue for you![]()

Add to that diesel turbos are designed to work around diesel engine rpm's and can super-heat the air at a rapid rate of knots at petrol engine rpms.

is it the trim of the wheels that make a turbo suited to a diesel or petrol engine?
seeing the a/r of the turbo is the same or simular to whats used in petrol applications. (eg. .60 a/r comp and say .84 a/r exhaust).
thanks.
There's also the fact that diesel turbo's are specced to run at diesel temperatures. The EGT for a diesel is far lower than petrol engines.
Turbos no give fark for RPM, they only see airflow. Having said that, a typical diesel turbo will have a large rear and a small front, so for that reason they tend to be unsuitable for petrol engines - unless it's a rotary. It's quite common to see big diesel turbos on a rotary because they also respond well to a big exhaust housing (ie lots of exhaust flow).

thanks all for the replies.
the turbo's i was looking at as the post title airresearch t04, went to the cousins today and got one that had been re-stamped Garrett (as pictured), is .60 a/r comp and .84 a/r ex, T04B.
from what i can find on this model it might be ok for what i'm after, i'll give it a go on the twincharge i'm playing with, see how it goes anyways. no harm in trying.
Those "Diesel" turbos are succesfully used and modified in Finland. Just about everybody that I know personally uses some modified turbo off from truck, tractor or so... Most common turbos are Garrett, Holset and Schwitzer's.
Normally wheel sizes, trims and AR ratings are bit weird to start with.
Like Garrett that I have came from Scania truck. This turbo had 55mm compressor wheel and 65mm turbine wheel. AR was .100 or so. Now it has 60mm compressor wheel and AR is .70. Turbine side stayed the same. Trim was also slightly changed.
This should be good for 600hp...

There are pics and videos and stuff... Have a look...
Ive seen some of those Holset turbos for sale. Cheap too.
However when I looked at the specs, they were for 12 to 15 liter engines!
How much does it cost to have them changed to different specs?
HZJ75, RS41, JZZ30
Dont worry! IIRC my Garrett came from 16liter Scania. However when I looked at the specs, they were for 12 to 15 liter engines!
You have to ask prices from local turbo shop. In Finland getting turbo modified is relatively cheap...
Prices mostly depends on parts, like if they are new or used...
