I couldn't get mine off without pulling inlet off.

    Hi
I changed the capacitors in the guys car that started this thread and his car has been fine for about 2 weeks now with lots of driving, so we are both confident that it is fixed.

Are you sure the ecu you tried is a good one? I only ask because 3 out of his 6 or so capacitors were leaking very badly so its wasn't just a random one off dodgy capacitor.

It's fair to presume that most 1J ecu's of that age with those particular capacitors could be leaking.

When his car was playing up it was sending huge amounts of excess fuel into some cylinders, so much that it was coming out the exhaust still as a liquid. Try a LED test light on each signal wire at the injectors while the car is idling and see if some have a very short pulse (normal) and others have a very long or continuous pulse (not normal)

If the pulses are not approximately the same for all cylinders (but still a pulse) you have a stuffed ecu. If some injectors are on continuously you have a problem with the wiring for the injectors or a stuffed ecu.

Thanks heaps for the advice. I was talking to him last night and yes, he seems confident that was the problem. Mine had two leaky caps. I have not had a chance to open the new ECU up to check yet.

Mine was doing exactly the same thing, huge amounts of fuel out the tail pipe. It won't even start now because the plugs are fouled up.

I have removed the injectors and the O'rings on them are all gone. After you turn the car off, the fuel pump primes the lines again. When this happens, I can hear the pressure in the rail just leak away....

Anyhow, I hope to have all the parts I need and have the new O'rings in by the end of the week.

Thankyou very much for the reply. +ve rep for you

    I got all mine out.
Just had to take a few things off:
    the throttle cable bracket
    ISCV
    Air temp sensor
Just be patient - they will all come out.

    Cheers Peter.

Got them out, yep, remove ISCV, throttle body and a few hoses. Take 2 bolts out of the three on the retaining plates and swing it around. Too easy. Getting them back in nice and square may be a PITA though.

    Cheers Brad.
