    Awesome write-up!

I'm having issues with my car (injectors) and I'm pretty sure this is the issue. I cracked open my ECU and one of the capacitors are leaking.

I don't have a steady hand to do this, but my dad said he may give it a go...

Give you $20 to do mine?

could the damaged caps have anything to do with an overly (like filthy) rich mixture the whole way through the rev range?

So is it just 1Js that suffer this or are a bunch of mid90s Toyotas likely to be in that bracket too?

    I've seen leaking caps in AE101 20V ecu's too.

Any ECU with Nichicon branded capacitors on the board, from around that era.
Rich mixture could be from MAP sensor, O2 sensor, intake air temp sensor, coolant temp sensor, or crook ECU, or probably other things too.
Have you pulled your ECU codes to see if it has thrown any?

yeah pulled the codes but it didnt give me any - apparently everythng is finnnneee!!

is there a reference table for pressure vs map output voltage or resistance or however the unit works?

Someone recently did a study on various map sensors, might want to check with him to see if he wrote down the voltages at each pressure level.

I got error code 14 (IGF I think it is) and 21 (O2 Sensor - however it's unplugged so we know that problem).

Ribfeast - wanna replace my capacitors? lol. I'm shit when it comes to electronics.

If you're looking for a replacement 15uF capacitor, goto RS Components and ask for part number 491-0412. It's a 15uF, 63V Nichicon. Come as packs of 5 and should be available off the shelf.

Now. Try to find a 20uF cap for the AE101 4AGZE ECU. That's a hard one.... Everything is always 22uF.

Some great info in this thread ... thanks

How crucial are the ripple current specs for these caps? What about the other specs such as impedence?

I have some Rubycon ML series caps here, which are only 75mA ripple current (compared to 250mA for the ZL series or 480mA for the ZAs)

I guess it wouldn't be very hard to source the 'right' ones, but if what I have would be OK then I may as well use them up.

They will be better than what's in there, that's for sure. Obviously the ZL are better, but for this application, I doubt it matters much. You're not exactly smoothing power for the latest intel processor...

I can have a look if you can get it Brisbane southside if you want. Got a heap of spare caps too, stinking minimum purchase quantities.....
