Default 1G-GTE hilux - running issues

Hey guys, ive got a hilux with a 1G-GTE in it and have been havings ome issues...
Just wondering if anyone knows why the following might happen...
was out driving when out of no where the car wouldnt accelerate properly, then went to rev the car, sounds fine.. put it in gear and go to drive, when it starts to get under load the motor sounds like it wants to go but the car wont physcially go anywhere, it starts missing and massive smoke comes out the exhaust.... have tried to reset the ECU, and sometimes that helps, which leads me to think its electrical... few ppl i have talked to think maybe the coil has packed it in, but shy of spending big bucks to find the issue im at a loss.... anyone experienced this? any ideas would be appreciated...
    cheers

ignition probably, check that all spark plug leads are firing and that all plugs are fine and not fouled. i had the same problem turned out one of my coil packs had carked it, free reved fine, as soon as it started to boost it would break down. All might be sparking but one or two might be alot weaker than the others.

    1G-GTE is a straight 6.... 6 plugs, 6 leads...

to be honest i dont know about the afm/ map hookup, but i have checked all hoses/vacuum lines, all are good and intercooler plumbing is all fine... like i said, when i reset ecu it seems to run ok for abit... almost asif it is ok until an error code comes up? however i cant run a diagnostic as the diog plug is missing one of the terminals i need to earth out...

well splice the plastic off the wire that you need just below the diag plug and short it out that way
you dont need to short it on the plug so long as that wire is bridged to the other one you it wil work.

trace the wire back to the ecu using the color of it and the pinout of the ecu loom, they all go back there.... its a good starting point anyway. beter than sitting there playing with shit for 4 days and it turns out its a 10 dollar part and the ecu tells you exactly what it is

    good luck

I had the same problem with 1GGZ. make sure you dont have any vacuum or boost leaks. check the seals on the injectors, it turns out my engine doing the same thing as yours was a split injector rubber. also check the cold start injector/stepper motor. Make sure the power/earth for the stepper motor is properly wired too.

    Best of luck

cheers BeRad, will have a look at the wiring, i would LOVE it to cost me like ten bucks lol , but as im sure u can appreciate, very hard to follow wiring in a car that isnt meant to have that motor... Mick, i didnt even know that injectors had seals? how did you find the fault?

THREAT: find an ECU pinout diagram for your flavour of 1GGTE (gen 1, 2 or 3) and wire in your own diagnostic port/connector - am assuming that someone wires up the check-engine light to the ECU?

well, that i am not sure of chuck. i hope so, but when i start the car i dont get any "warning lights"... to be honest, i dont know if i am competant enough to wire something direct into the ECU myself..

meh - i'm a graphic designer by trade - and i rebuild engines ... wiring is wiring and there's no time like now to learn

anyway, the wires out in the engine bay just connect to the ECU so it's not different to working under the dash... And all you'd be doing is:
-checking the plug shape and pin counts to determine the engine generation
-identifying which pin is TE1 - and therefore which connector is TE1
-seeing what wire comes from that connector pin
-joining a wire to that wire or pin
-earthing that wire and counting CEL-flashes when you put the key to IGN.

you don't open the lid on the ECU.
