open her up... look to see if it has helical gears, or spider gears.

Actually, my RC buggy has Torsen LSDs, and they use straight cut gears... same principal, just need thicker oil.

    Cheers, Owen

EDIT... pretty sure torsen should turn both wheels the same way with the car on stands and turning the tailshaft by hand... whereas open will spin opposite (unless the torsen is out of oil)

The traditional method is a bit hard when the owner is in the passenger seat

Otherwise, one wheel on soft, one on hard, about a second of full throttle, and see if theres a black mark from the tyre on the hard surface... if not, then shes open or sloppy. If theres a black mark, its LSD. Should be evident pretty quickly, as non LSD you wont go very far (do it with the brakes off).

    yeah yeah. whinge & complain.
I'm pretty sure the centre diff is viscous. You shouldn't be abel to slip that by hand.

I dunno if its been covered or not but if you want to check if your car has a factory lsd the last number on the trans/axle number will be odd. (3=2 pinion lsd, 5=4 pinion lsd)

If its got an aftermarket lsd surely the behaviour of the car will let you know fairly easily
