GT, If the mount just needs welding and you have some free time at night we may be able to get Linden at Roadrunner to help you out. He works stupid hours, usually starts work at 4pm and finishes in the wee small hours of the morning

Yeah, the mount is a tab welded to the strut, and the weld has busted. I've done the right side before, did the passenger side at the creek last time. The Linden offer is a tempting one, late night seems to be the only time i've got. Where is the workshop?
The car's at my parents' place up on the northern beaches, and i was kinda using it as another excuse to give the engine a rest.
I also think i need brake pads, and it definately needs some fresh fluid and a bleed. I'd just given up on it really, damn work.![]()
Shane, thanks for the offer. Co-incidently i was on the scales last night, tipped them at 24.8kg.Looking forward to seeing what the tough little rolla can do.

Girraween (near Parramatta). If you want to organise it let me know and I'll see what we can arrange. Just need a couple of days notice as he's usually pretty busy. Doesnt sound like too big a job thoughOriginally Posted by -GT-

I'm at my parents' tomorrow night so i'll check it out and see if the other issues are enough to not bother with the mount. I know i've said it before but the engine really is getting bad enough to put it down.It won't idle without drowning in oil and generally struggles to survive in stop start traffic.
If i take it I could quite conceivably be calling in favours to get it back to sydney... It might just be time to say i've had a good run.
Oh, and there might be a vacancy in the Zed driver lineup i can fill.![]()

is it possible to trailer it down there?
seems a shame for it's dying breaths not to be at the track.
EDIT: though the rebuild will be easier if the engine doesn't expire I guess
Update: brakepads going in on the weekend (I figured I may need more then 4mm considering the recommended min is 3mm on the front) I have 6-7mm on the rear so they should be fine.

Haha, i like the way you think.
Don't think so, maybe. Unfortunately i'm going to brisbane straight after to help dad bring back the perfect tow vehicle, that's why i need to get back early, just a shame it's not a week earlier.
I'll have an ask around and see what i can come up with...
Also, we're back to two spots left.

Have you got removable inserts, Garth?
If not, you've have to be welding onto the shock tube itself & can boil the fluid.
At least you've got the tabs, my car had none & had to have welded on so I could fit the rear sway bar (which is now not on the car again) & I've also got Koni inserts, so they were removed to do the welding.
Yeah, i've got koni inserts, my suspension guy re-welded the other side for me so i'm pretty certain he (didn't see him) removed them to do it. Not quite as straight forward as throwing the car up on a hoist and pointing a welder at it, but not much.

Garth... i'm getting pretty keen to try my old '28 out on a track day... so i'll be keeping an eye out for your next one
I just need to think of what I should do to the old celica before then to ensure i dont destroy everything!!
...... butt scratcher?!
There's only so much i can tell you, if it's sub 1:10s you're after, i'll have to show you.Originally Posted by YLD-16L
Karl, cooling! Oil's the big one, brakes helps but probably the right pads and fluid moreso. Tyres that aren't going to give up the ghost and ruin your fun as soon as they get hot, which is not necessarily semis. But semis are fun. You might be suprised how little you need to do to get out there and survive a day - short stints and plenty of cooldown in between (something i've never been able to do) probably make as much of a difference. Gives you an excuse to jump in a few passenger seats too.![]()
