Default RT142 live axle rear disks into RA40 - anyone else?

    hi all,

am nearly ready to start assembling this brake conversion. I just have to swap over the retaining plate from RT142 to the RA40 axles (and get new seals/bearings in the process).

Has anyone already got a thread covering this? or pictures showing the results

All i could find was RT104GTs thread from Oct '06.

Being an RA40 i think i don't need to shift shock mount points (you haveto move them for RA23/28)

I am curious as to how folks resolved brake lines. I think i should have grabbed the hard line on the diff from the RT142 donor as the existing line will be too long C9omes up too close to the backing plate.

As i'm also preparing for hilux 4-spots on the front, i'm not worrying about brake bias until then.

I'll put some pics in my reader's thread when action happens.

    tia,
    Charles.

the corona callipers are fed with a short rubber line and a banjo fitting.

there is a way you can get around the bearing retainer swap.

you could make a ring to the specifications of the corona retainer.

cut a slit in it, stretch it over the ra40 axle and push the ring into the diff housing.

i think its a given that youll destory the bearings if you want to change the retainer plates. have you factored that into the swap?

Yeah - but the original lines are hardlines all the way up to slaves and the new ones have >6" of hose. I'm just curious as to whether people left the existing lines in palce and had the piping coiled up safely or if they shortened the hard lines.

yes, i was going to put new seals/bearings on the axles - is a given.

If i got motivated enough i could measure the ring from the RT142 axles ... i guess i'll measure it tonight and see if there's an exhaust pipe of similar size

just bringing this back up for a related query.

What bolts do people use to attach the cast alloy bracket onto the end of the axle tubes?

The stock celica setup uses relatively thin nut+bolt, whereas the RT142 appears to have larger holes.

You will need 8 x high tensile bolts, 45mm Long x 10mm metric Fine,1.25mm thread... for this mod..
Bolts need to be linished on one flat, to clear axle houseing..
Use stock nuts, with loctite 262...

PS.. Use a diff from a RA60, you can just swop the housing's, as the RA60 has a rear sway bar... unbolt the sway bar brackets from the RA60's chassis, & weld to the RA40's in the same spot... All other hangers are the same..
As with the RT142's diff, but need the tail shaft from the 142 as well..
