Default VZV21 - 'charge' and 'lights' light coming on

so i was driving home last night, 8pm so headlights were on. all of a sudden the charge and lights light come on, i pulled over, checked the voltage and it was fine, checked alternator belt and it was fine. kept driving, eventually they turned off, then back on etc.

this morning i checked all the fuses which are all fine... except the lights on the dash are still on

    any ideas?

the light light means a light is out somehwere could be break light , park light etc, charge light check that the alternator is producing power when the car is running with a multi meter,it should be around 13.5 volts on idle, as you rev the motor in neutral the car voltage should rise up to around 14.7volts.... if it goes any higher the regulator is busted and needs to be replaced.

If charge and lights lights are on, then the alternator not charging.

There are many reasons that can cause this, the most common being the alternator is stuffed.

First thing to do would be pull the regulator off the back of the alternator and check the brushes.I'd say this would be your problem,If not the alternator itself is shagged.
    Cheers Brett.

thanks to all replys, it indeed was the alternator.
took it to the auto electrician i know and they confirmed it. went to pick and payless today, i know they have a vzv21 there, got the alternator out of it for $100

took about a hour to put in, voltage is up where its ment to be, and it sounds and feels like its running better

    thanks again for replys
