Default Tinted lights.. and how to be rid of them

I'm playing with a Sprinter at the moment that was last owned by someone who seems to have a penchant for poor taste. A razor blade has taken care of the stickers, the front number plate has been moved to the *proper* place, the headlights have been rid of the gaffa tape 'eyebrows', but so far I'm left with that rotten tint on the other lights. Not being a product I'm exactly, er, familiar with, I've got no idea how to get rid of it - is this possible? If so, I need ideas!

I think it would have been much better if the previous owner had added a nice woodgrain strip, or maybe a vinyl roof... Some folks just have NO idea on good taste

a mate of mine got rid of his tail light tint with steel wool/green scrubbing pads after both him and the police got sick of it.

didn't turn out very neat though, still some black left over and some scratch/swirl marks, they were faded before he painted them though, and it was a pretty rough car.

only other things i can really suggest is try non scourning cleaners first, and take it easy.

my old RA23s plastic lenses were in pretty poor condition, so i took to them with some 1200 grit sandpaper and a buffing wheel with plastic polishing compound. came up like new.

now, they weren't tinted, but rather 'frosted' from 30 years of UV exposure. depending on how deep the tint is, this might be a perfect solution for you.

If this stuff was put in on the inside like its really meant to, i think your up the creek, and should look at replacements.

try some rubbing compound, it also works on freshening up grime infested lights

Should be run of the mill paint, just with less pigment and more clear. so sand and buff, you probably won't get it out of all the nooks and cranny. but still better than having tinted lights.
Probably follow the supramk4 headlight cleaning procedure sand and buff, or you could try some paint stripper. ask someone for a busted light to test on. I only mention paint stripper because when i did my cam covers my plastic paintbrush didn't melt.

Car hasn't been painted in puke green has it? Sadly the one i had to piece back together was, white dash too. ewwww

You can buff them off with buff compund and a buff machine. If you goto a local detailer i'm sure they will buff the lights for you. shouldn't be too much. Just make sure you goto a good one otherwise you may get buff burns

Ahh, so the stuff is hopefully just painted onto the outside? Actually, I have to go and see the guy I got the car off to sort out the papers, I'll ask him what he put on there, and tell him what I think

if there on the inside its still OK, you can try using bleach if that dose not work you can use paint stripper as the lights paint is actually ink witch is put in with the plastic when made (and all the night shade is, is paint) so you cant really wreck them.
let me know how that goes.
Time is priceless yet it costs us nothing.
You can do anything you want with it but you can't own it.
You can spend it but you can't keep it.
And once you've lost it, there is no getting it back, it's just gone."

Wax and grease remover, or thinners.

Yeah if its on the inside go the chems.

On the outter id try using those microfibre sponges then buffing. The CHUX ones are quite good but i get these industrial grade ones that supposedly have a lot more micro-whatever in em and they will take anything off anything - with water. Its bloody unreal.

i had the same issue a long time ago with the spray on tint. it all came off with the aid of some thinners and a lot of elbow greese.

Yep, use thinners Mike, but be careful - the thinners will also disolve the plastic if left on in pools over time!
