Thats the 16valve 18rg head brett

-thanks norbie
-actually, it is 2TG 16v
AFAIK the purpose of the balance tube is to get a stable vacuum signal, as it is joined to all four inlet ports which are usually separate.

1980RIP NATHAN BRETT DEAN2007,
yeah good luck! i made my own, i knew that it would be very hard and expensive to track one down(tassie anyways)

You can use 4ME and 5ME Upper Timing Chain tensioners...they are a direct fit, I have one in my 18RG now. 5M-GE obviously won't work seeing as it has a timing belt. 3TGTE and 2TG also supposedly fit but I don't have first hand experience.Originally Posted by DQIKST

Cressida MX62...............1983-85...5M
Crown MS65..................1971-76...4M
Crown MS83,85.............1977-80...4M
Crown MS111, MS112...1977-83...5M
Crown MS123...............1983-85...5M
Supra MA61.................1983-85...5M
SWS Motorsport sell "18RG" tensioners for $51, however these are simply refurbished/cleaned 5ME ones, as the one I bought off him was identical to the one i found at the wreckers for $10.
The 4M/5M tensioners require one slight mod, you may need to cut down the length of the shaft to match your 18RG to ensure correct tension. Couple of minutes work with a dropsaw.
Hope this helps man!
i wish i knew that! i had one of them. they look different though.

Yeah the outer housing is a different design, but the thread is the same, oil holes etc...
and apparently they look ugly, any one got a pic?
+rep for u already major although i am going to see if a 2TG would fit in an 18RG

1980RIP NATHAN BRETT DEAN2007,
they're pretty gay lookin, just a slightly tapered shaft about the same length with a nut and slotted stud on the end(like a rocker adjustable screw thing). that is if the 4ME has the same as the early(pre-pollution) 4M's. i believe they are.Originally Posted by DQIKST
if you get stuck i've got one from both 4M's that you can have.
if no-one posts a pic tonite i'll get you one tomorrowand i''l check the threads/measurements.

Hey guys,
Can someone please confirm that these carbs are 44mm P5 Solex's?
See the metal plate sitting on top of the two carbs that connects to the accelerator cable? I took it off and underneath there is 'MIKUNI' engraved so it must be a factory item...Anyone seen that before? I certainly haven't...
The close-up pic is taken without the metal plate.
Cheers,
Ren.
they all look the same.Originally Posted by Ren_RG28
they usually say what size they are on the body near the butterfly end.
failing that, you can take an air filter(simple in most cases) off and measure one of the throats.

as suggested though, remove an air filter and whip out the verniers![]()
hello
Hi,
Look like later style 40mm for the 18R-GU engines. They're not the same as the early 210 and 230 head 18R-G engines.

river,
i believe the they are from a earlier model 18R-GU, not the later ones. one of the 18rgu's i owned (88253) had identical carbs and another had the pollution carbs. as far as i know it, toyota were trying to reduce emissions so its likely the pollution carbs were on the later 18rgu's
