Its never going to be an easy install.

You need to remember, if your installing a fuel injected engine, into a fuel injected car, you have to change fuel lines, filters, pumps.

Then theres mounts, gearboxes, flywheels, clutches, brake lines, upgrading the rear brakes to ensure theres enough stopping power for the car.

Its never going to be a simple easy conversion, and its going to end up costing big $$$

    Thanks

As much as it burns my hands to type it the easiest way to get what your looking for is a holden V6 six. castlemaine rod shop does a conversion kit for it, so all the hard stuff is done for you. the engine's tough, tourqey and powerfull enough for everyday driving, even if they all sound like theres something slightly wrong with em. if you want more power out of it after that theres about a gazillionbillion parts around for it, unlike the 1ggte and if you want to get fancy you could track down one of twincam versions in the newer commodores, thatd be an interesting swap. good luck wiring it up though

    Personally,

i was thinking about going the 1GGTE.

I like power, i like the thought of a twin turbo, and InfotechPlus has already done a well documented 1GGZE Conversion, so whats the point in copying that?

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

well, if you dont wanna commodre engine this is my list of engines for a hilux in ascending order of pain in the assness and baddassitude.
    step 1. 1ggte-1uzfe-1j-2j
step 2. LS2 or ford GT motor.
    step 3. twin turbo 1uzfe.
step 4. large capacity v12, one of those new twin turbo 6 litres s600 motors would be nice
step 5. jam an injectid turbo merlin in it, sit on the roof and laugh insanely at all around you.
step 6. Top fueller motor??? Gas turbine?? rocket engine??

if you do want a 1g then the 1gzze would probally be better than the gtte cause youd always have some boost and tourqe available.

AFAIK, the manifold of the 22R-TE fouls on the steering column of right hand drive cars.

mgfe, a couple of important questions. What's your budget and how long can you go with the car off the road?
    Max
    NB8B MX-5 | Fulcrum-tuned Tein SS coilovers | Weldwell Engineering 4 point Rollbar | DBA 4000 slotted rotors | Goodridge braided lines
MY11 Skoda Octavia RS wagon | 2x ISOFIX seats | Iggle Piggle's blanket | Some breast milk stains

When putting a budget together, include things like Fuel system, Exhaust system, cooling system, Intercooler system, as these are often overlooked as a major price tag item. for an Unconventional engine swap ( N/A to turbo where the engine never came in that car in japan) the cost of these areas alone is around $3-4000 In parts and Labour (unless you can weld really well)

When I plan and budget a conversion (known as dreaming) I start with a shell only No drive line. From there add approx. (researched) costs to the following:

    Engine / Cut purchase -
    Crossmember -
    Mounts make and weld -
    Gearbox -
    Clutch -
    Tailshaft -
    Diff Housing -
    Diff Centre -
    Gearbox Crossmember -
    Exhaust system -
    Fuel pumps -
    Surge tanks -
    Fuel lines -
    ECU -
    Wiring -
    Tuning -
    Front suspension -
    Rear suspension -
    Front brakes -
    Rear brakes -
    Brake lines -
    Brake M/S -
    Intercooler -
    Intercooler mounting -
    Intercooler piping -
Plumb back BOV and piping -
    Radiator -
    Radiator mounting -
    Radiator Piping -
    Thermo fans -
    A/C Piping -
    A/C regas -
A/C radiator and or mounting -
    Engine Oil -
    Oil Filter -
    Fuel Filter -
    Toyota Red -
    P/S oil -
    GearBox Oil -
    Diff Oil -
    Brake Fluid -
    Pulley belts -
    Timing belt -
    Cam Shaft seals -
    Front main seal -
    Rear main seal -
Add $500 for misc Brackets, tools wires, and beer and stuff.

Generally i add about 15% to each item (where I know the retail price) and work out an approx price and add 25% for things I have no clue on.

Obviously this isnt applicable to every conversion and you can strike out what isn't reqiured. This is assuming that you are doing the work yourself. If you have no clue and are wanting a shop to do it you can comfortably times the cost of the parts by 2 and a half and add some

    Cheers

90% of that list above wont ned to be touched!

go the 1ggte you wont be dissapointed!

and as for torque thats what the turbo(s) and gearbox is for, it will have more torque than youll know what do with compared to anything else except a late model LS1 or something

...... yea yea here we go .... sure a 1j, 2j and tones of other things will have more crank shaft torque but horse power can be instantly converted to big torque with the gearbox and diff etc

ie FORGET your V6 and all that crap a 1ggte with a few mods is good for about 300hp and thats going to make your little hilux FLY!

so what if you have to rev it a little more and use a lower gear, at the end of the day the power is there if you want it and plenty of it too

with a good tune they arnt that bad under 3000 too, i was pleasently impressed when i put one in my bemer, because its a six it has more low down torque that any 4cyl of similar capacity

Oh and last thing with a good tune they run on the smell of an oily rag too!!
it totally defies logic how much fuel mine doesnt use, i get easily 100k's from 8-9L and it runs flat 13.0's all day any day in full road trim

Theres 1 thing im finding with the 1GGTE.

The power levels people get from the engine varies greatly.

Theres people that have done $1000 worth of mods, and only get 150rwkw, then theres people with the engines stock, and they get about 190rwkw. Most of the engines seem to have done about the same amount of kms, and have seen the same amount of wear and tear, yet theres huge differences in power output.

Is there any specific reason for this?

Its the only thing stopping me from getting a 1GGTE, i could buy it, fit it, then find i only get 130rwkw, and have to spend big heaps to get about where i want.

    Any ideas?

Different tune? (ie. ECU from different country)

Compression and leak-down would be a major factor too.
