plenty of kits around and there is an ecu that has been developed for that conversion
also you can get lexcen rocker covers and that makes it all toyota

Ask you local engineer whats legal first, before i recommend a McLaren developed S70.

nostalgia is not what it used to be:
Above 3k they're fine, and they're not terrible when loaded up because they spool a bit faster.Originally Posted by Screamn_Sleeka

They're not much longer than a 22R and they are lighter.
Parts aren't that hard to get, particularly for the application in mind, it depends what you want to do with it.

I had pretty well the same question myself.
Ive been watching Infotechplus and his conversion with a lot of interest, and have even started getting a few of the bits and pieces together.
I was also starting to wonder which way i should go. Should i install a 1GGTE, and what are its good and bad points? or should i go with the most likely less powerful 1GGZE, thats going to be good for the general workhorse?
I have been looking into it for quite a while, and was considering making a thread like this myself.
The conversion i was looking for had to be 90% bolt in. I dont have access to a welder, and dont particulary want to go making custom engine mounts. I also wanted a cheap, reliable 5 Speed, and an engine that was going to make enough power if i wanted it, but also have the ability to be a nice daily driver.
The 1G is perfect for this Conversion, as you can bolt the engine straight in, can fit a W58, at not to expensive a cost, and if you want, theres nice easy mods out there that can get you a bit more power with adjustable cam gears, etc.
Keep the good and bad points coming thanks guys.
Andrew
I think some guys are on the wrong forums with all this holden talk (there is no need to swear)
if your looking for a motor with torque go with a 1UZ but if you just want a motor you can thrash go the 1GGTE
but remember 1G's are getting harder to get parts for so what may seem cheep at first will not end that way

It's not so much the questions themselves, but the manner in which they are asked![]()
What kind of mods are needed to bolt in a 1UZ-FE?
The only one ive seen is millsi's, and im not going that far!
Is it a simple use a couple of mounts from a different car and away we go?
or is it harder then that?
Then if you want a manual, you have to find the right bellhousing, get a slightly stronger gearbox then a W58, unless your going to treat it nice.
Thanks
Andrew
Andrew the W58 is more than strong enough for a 1UZ as for bolting one in I cant help sorry mate

Off topic a little bit but I hope you dont mind. i am considering a conversion on my wifes IS200 which has a 1GFE in it . Would the 1GGTE be a wortwhile proposition. I quess it is of the same family/block with a true twincam head an tubocharged. Would it be a good thing and an easier conversion than a 1UZFE? You help would be appreciated.
Cheers

Any 1GGTE you find will have been made years before your 1GFE, which makes in an illegal swap as far as I know (older engine into newer car).Originally Posted by toddw
I suppose you could go the 'turboed high comp NA motor with good tuning' route with 1G parts, but I have no idea of the feasibility. I seem to remember there being supercharger kits for the 1GFE too, but I might be wrong.
The 1UZ into a hilux wil not e a bolt in swap, BUT if you want a good torque Toyota motor I personally think its worth the extra $$ and effort.
The 1G-GTE tho has been put in a few hiluxs and compared to a 22RE will feel like a V8 anyway![]()
