My temp gauge hit max for like 1 second, whats the go?

for everyone else... if it shoots up after you've given the car a bit of stick, turned it off, then back on again a little while later, that'll be heat soak.

if your driving along and its going up and down depending on what angle the car is on, chances are that your coolant is low.

if your sitting at traffic light and the temp starts going up, then goes back down when you rev the car (take off, or free-revving) your coolant is low.

if it goes up and up and up and doesnt go down at all, youve got no coolant, or BHG.

the EXTREMELY basic version of it.

id say low coolant.

check it, if its not that, have a hard look at wiring.

na coolant levels havn't changed in 6 months and still looks new

Ryan....dont forget the wiring runs from the gauge...problem could even be behind the gauge just a late night thought ...up watchin the moto gp

well i sprayed it with some wd40 and fiddled with the wiring and took it for a drive, temp stayed about 1/4 the way and didn't bounce so see what happens tommorrow if it stays the same

coolant can't change temp that fast, and if it did the sender couldn't respond quickly enough. The problem is most likely electrical. If you've been playing around with the thermo housing then check wires for insulation breaks.

I've had this happen once. I put it down to a bubble in my coolant. I checked the wiring, AOK. I never saw it again either.
