I believe the old type software (DOS based) does not work with certain computers/motherboards whatever. Look through Haltech forums and you will find some info. Unless you can use HalWinX with E6K which is windows based.
im having a bit of a problem with the halltech sofware (downloaded from haltech site, to suit e6k) i open the software i can see most of the letters but there are alot of strange symbols. throughout the text. just wondering if anyone else had experienced this? it makes it very hard to decipher what everything means.
p.s. does anyone have a map for a e6k tuned for 4agte they could send me? i need one to drive my car to the exaust shop, tuners etc. before it can get its proper tune. (theres rep in it for you!)
cheers

ahh ok shall look into that +r.
IF you want it tuned i got my 20v tuned from Hitman. He did a great job, better than the installer. From memory he's preferred ecu is the haltech
If your laptop is a compaq you will need to download the compaq software from the Haltech site .
Trevor
hitman aye, ive heard good things about him, thanks for the recomendation.
nah its not a compaq but i tried the compaq software and it looked much better but couldent talk to my serial port. haltech fourm tells me lots of people have trouble with win2k onwards compatability with e6k software. (e6x is fine but) just going to buy a poxy old lap top to play with it.
anyone help me out with a map?
cheers all +r
Using DOS boot disk boot the laptop in dos the run the E6K.exe from the dos prompt. Works fine when I have to use my Xp Laptop on the nephews car.

First of all, does your laptop have a dedicated com port, or are you using some sort of adapter to run from a USB port or printer port? Neither of the adapter options will work, but if you have the proper com port, as mentioned, you can make a bootable floppy disk & run the E6K software without loading windows. Guaranteed this will work.
The older DOS (E6K & older) software is an absolute PITA!!! I've been ready to fit a carby after fighting to get 3 different laptops to work, all to no avail.....
I have maps to suit a 4AGTE & Haltech E6K or E6X, but it depends on what size injectors you are running. Also, do you just need the fuel & ignition maps, or the complete configuration setup also?
Let me know.

i have a haltech f7 and i am using a compaq armada e500 laptop.
i get glitches throughout the screen as well (i didn't know there was a compaq driver so i will have to go back and have a look)
this is using a win98 dos boot disk with just the f7c software on it (f7b didn't work).
I have an old laptop in the shed if you want it...doesn't hold battery life but....nd i would like to see if this compaq driver thing will work.
i was actualy installing it on my PC just to have a play around with the software offline. After being refered to the haltech forum i found as you stated above that none of the usb/printer to com port adaptors work. so the plan is to find an old cheapy laptop with a com port and do the bootable floppy option.
If posible the complete configuration would be excelent!, i plan on using 7mgte injectors (440cc)
definatley interested in the laptop as long as its got a com port! whats it worth?
f7b software never worked on any computer i've tried, but the f7C does the job fine on the B ecu. I don't know if there's a compaq version for the F7 though.
criag, email me all of the details of your setup, and i'll see what I can do. I particularly need to know:
-ignitor module type
-waste spark or 4 coils?
-2 or 3 bar map sensor
-are you using the RA8 ignition adapter?
email [email protected]
Cheers

Yeah, the cheapy laptop tends to work the best. My new PC laptop has a hissy fit when i try and load HalwinX even though it has a com port. The dog old Acer i bought for the task does it flawlessly.

If you do a search on google for hitman you can find his site and there are some base maps for the haltech system from memory.
Generally i'd recommend you get someone to tune it properly or at least with a wideband AF meter
