Default Any help identifying Toyo 4sp box.

Hi. This is probably easy as but I hope I can get a couple of questions answered The box is attached to a Holden 186 in an EJ ute so my manuals don't cover it.

    1. Is it a toyo box, and if so, idea what type of car it came from, or it's part number, and

    2. Where I have indicated, am I correct in believing this is the filler/level indicator?

Any help much appreciated. Cheers, Paul.

    W40?

fill until oil dribbles back out hole - should be a little over 1 litre

Shame it didn't come with a W50 (celica 5speed from RA23/28/40) as it's got the same mounting face at the front (where it connects to bellhousing) - much lower revs at highway cruise speeds.

Definately W40. It will have come out of a Corona RT104, Crown or Cressida.

I just take out the gear stick, undo the filler hole plug (arrowed) and fill via the gear stick hole till the oil dribbles out of the filler hole.

Thank you guys!!!! Your input is very much appreciated.

Was considering 5 speed but cutting the tunnel to fit isn't my thing (needs to be done for originally manual EJ/EH's apparently).

Filler hole (thanks for confirming) is burred as. Cant get air impact in there as frame is in the way. The filling through the gearshift is a great suggestion! I will go for a search, but if anyone knows off the top of their head the dry capacity for this box, may save me dropping the box again.

    Cheers! Paul

Numerous searches on W40 oil capacity have been unuseful. Hoping I can stretch the friendship & ask that someone with this box can quote a user manual/workshop manual on the recommended oil capacity for this box.

To attempt to extract the filler bolt will require reattachment of the rear shaft bolts, box support & the like (if not total removal of the engine/box-she's burred!!). I would rather fill thru the shifter hole (thanks gianttomato) & drain every 3 months to check than 'undo' my work to date.

    Thanks!

Or it could have came out of a Mark II, dont for get them!

With all toyota boxes, u fill them untill it spills out, when the box is level. (if not ALL boxes...)

Cheers Screamn Sleeka. Yeah, I would if I could. Have to pull the box back out, or at the very least, drop to get it to the point where I (hope) I can get the impact to bite the filler bolt enough to loosen. Capacity will avoid this! Cheers for the response mate. Appreciated.

Edit: And yes, I wish I thought about this whilst the box was sitting on my garage floor!

    Hi,

Also some models of the 18R powered Celicas had the W40 box.

my haynes manual says 2.5 qts of API GL-4 or GL-5 -

but doesn't say if that's imperial or US quarts (0.568 or 0.956 litres)... sorry, someone with a real manual will have to chime in.
