that a serious question?!
if we can get 1j and 1g straight 6's in then i think a SR is going to be like a tennis ball in a basketball hoop.... lotsa room.

been done in the us quite a lot and it's quite a roomy fit. Any reason your are defecating in your engine bay instead of putting a toyota motor in there?

The SR20 will be an easy fit if you choose that path. They are a nice fit in the smaller TA22 engine bay.

Hello.
one issue with the SR20 and infact most nissan engines is that the gearboxes are extremely long, i was looking at an sr20 into the shit tin (ta22), but the gearstick came up right in the middle of the structural crossmember that the seats bolt to.
AFIAK the floor pans are relatively similar so chances are you are gonna be doing alot of cutting and welding
thats the reply i was looking for. one of the work shops here in adelaide said i would most likely need to move the firewall and trans tunnel. if any one knows for shore 100% that i dont need to cut and shut please can they advise. if not ill have to measure up.
for the defecting question from toyota. sr20t have so much support. got an 18rg but to old and cant turbo due to legalities. 1g is last resort as i wanted 4cl. have owned 4 celicas and wanted something different.
ill post pics just finished rust removal.cheers.

Beige.... The new Black!!!
I'll agree to the gearbox issue, the engine is a snug fit, but the gearshift is way back. I don't know if the boxes are like W58 and have a series of selector positions available?!? Might be worth looking into as well.
Cheers

very neat example.

I've had the pleasure in driving this and it is a bloody nice car!!! If you can put purity aside (which i know some on here can't) for a minute, it is a fantastic idea!
The shifter isn't awkwardly far back, in fact I can't even remembering noticing a difference, but it *may* require the shifter hole to be opened up a little.
I've contemplated the swap into my 28, but the fact is that I'm lazy and I already have a much more interesting project![]()
sr20 shit on any 4cyl toyota engine in more ways than one so stop bagging them
ive done afew sr20s into old corollas and even a ca18t into a very old corolla
and it flew on std boost i doubt u coul dget a 4a to do that without spending much money
but anyway dont want ot start flaming nissans or toytas now but
u can get a skyline short 5 speed box
then get the front bellhousing changed fron the std sr box to the short skyline box
these short boxes are very hard to find so thats another problem but if u have the money u can prob find one somewhere
if the sr20t fits into a ke20 then i cant se ey it would be different to a celica
that's the problemOriginally Posted by sideshow

The ones i've read about have all made great power and nice torque and they fit quite nicely as you can see from the photo I posted. Not sure how they compare on cost with a 1ggte but it hasn't been done as often either.
Hello.
i was told the stumpy box (rb20) wasnt that much shorter than the s13/14 box i established the cost of the box significantly outweighted the cutting and welding also while undertaking this journey discovered the most over rated engine ever the engine in question is featured in my members ride thread
a mob up here in sunny QLD had an sr20 in a ta22 and had it on display at jambo, IIRC it was stz automotive, infact im 100% sure of it
www.stzautomotive.com.au
drop em a line, they were more than helpful and i asked ALOT of questions in the hot sun at willowbank
wish I still had a link to that ebay listing. Was a blue 22 or 23 drag car with a worked SR. Cant rememer if it was tubbed, but it was caged with massize slicks. Maybe you should buy a built one![]()

There is no doubting they are a good motor but they are no better than a 3S-GTE, especially if you keep the comparison to equivelent aged variants (IE GTIR SR20 - Gen3 3S-GTE.) The SR20 may well be easier to install into a RWD platform tho. (Beams 3S excluded)
I have said it before but fitting an SR20 into a Celica is like Butt sex in Jail, I can see why people do it but its still not right.
As for the Gearbox fitment, yes it will be tight and the shifter will sit a good deal further back but it will fit. If you can fit it into a TA22 (And you can) then it will be a "better" fit into an RA28.
