no i dont have a thread. will get there. problems i am having are with the roll cage as i know with classic adelaide, next year you need to have side intrusion bars in place. that beening it will be hard to get a full cage through regancy park(our road authorities) here in sa. my engineer said we could do it but my rollcage guy said there wont be enough head room. all fun and part of it all.

    will post pics this week.

Please note: this thread topic is titled "sr20 conversion into ra28". Its not " possible ra28 conversions". If you consider me arogant about this conversion, then its rightly so because I have done it. Twice. Which is Twice more than 99% of you on here. Join in this discussion by all means, but you make my abs sore with your foot in mouth comments. Yes, Rod has some good technical advice but he has also been hypocritical.

    George,

I think the chip on your shoulder may obscure your vision.

    BigMat,

A common way to get around the roll cage issues is to get a half cage installed and engineer (Regency) approved and just add the front hoops and side intrustion bars for when you need them. That way you can have a weld in or bolt in rear cage and just have the front part as a bolt in.

Looking forward to seeing the pics.

I went the other way and put a 3SGE (Gen 2) in my Datsun 1600. After going through all the pain of the RWD conversion, I can understand why you'd want to go for the Nissan motor that comes in a RWD configuration.

However I think if you were to spend the time and money, a 3SGTE could probably be made to go harder than an SR20. There are several areas in which it is technically superior. The SR20 has rocker arms that limit the revs, and the alloy block can flex under extreme pressure. The CA18 is worth looking at too though, as it doesn't have either of these problems.

But there are just so many cheap after market hot up bits for the SR20DET (and also the CA18DET) for RWD that they are pretty hard to go past for a reasonably cheap go-fast project.

    I had some experience with all of these motors as I currently have an S15 Silvia with a SR20, a S13 with a CA18DET and I've had a 3SGE in a Datsun 1600.

If I had a pile of money to spend, I'd go for the 3SGTE. Working to a limited budget for a front engine RWD, it would have to be one of the Nissan engines and the SR20 is probably the easiest.

Sort of OT but what about an ej20t? Fair bit of aftermarket support and are in the same vein as the sr20 and 3s motors. They can also be had fairly cheaply.

    Anyone done it before?

The boxer configuration of the Subaru motors makes fitment between the chassis rails VERY difficult and generally not cost effective.

The FJ20 is a strong motor and great for making BIG power.

But they're getting pretty ancient now and harder to find and after market support for them isn't so great now.

Also they weigh a ton compared to SR20 and 3SG, so you're going to get handling issues.

bit of an update on this one - bigmat won toyoshow in adelaide last month with his RA28 with the SR20 in it.

also won the dyno shootout, entrants choice, and a few other awards.

    cleaned up basically!

entrants choice says a lot for what toyota addicts thinks, yes we love our toyota's, but it seems most of us respect the work that went into it.
