Well this happened to me about 2 nights ago, except i forgot to hook up the cable when i test fited the bonnet.
If you unbolt the hinges at the front (well i havent put these on yet) then you can lift the front of the bonnet a bit (once again i dont care about the paintwork on my car so you might want to place some cloth around the top of the bonnet)
Then grab a coat hanger and cut just left of the hook at the top then straighten her out - with just a hook bit on the end, from there with someone holding the bonnet open slightly at the front and holding a torch to. You can reach from the driver side just before the strut (if your lucky you can open it just enough so you can slot your arm between the strut and the firewall - easy when you have feeble arms like mine)
Then you can push the rod into and hook over a big metal bit on the bottom of the latch (where the cable attaches to) and pull across to the drivers side. here is a quick picture done by memory (picture is with bonnet openish but gives you an idea)
When it is closed the right part is over the bonnet bit and its sprung closed.
Took me about 1 hour but had to remember what the latch looked like and whether i had to pullto which side. Good Luck.
