Its hard to tell from the pic, but do the blue capacitors have there tops raised or bursting?
Can you post a high reso shots of the underside too?
Could also be a dry solder joint.
Hey guys, in an attempt to fix my non-working 7MGTE iscv, i have pulled apart my ecu to see if there was any fried components relating to the iscv after reading this thread here.
However, i'm not very good at electronics and don't know where the circuitry for the iscv goes on the board or which resistors it goes through either. So here's a picture and what im asking is, does anybody know which resistors the iscv runs through. All resistors/components look okay to me.
Cheers
Sam

I'll try and get some high res pictures tommorow night. I hadn't thought of a dry solder joint.

Here's underside picture's, 6 highres ones. I'll get some of the top in a sec.

OK, there appears to few a few dry solder joins...
Gimmie a sec, ill highlight them.
Well hey, how about that. Thanks heaps too! I thought they looked a little dodgy as i was posting those pictures. Any idea why solder joints become dry?
Here are the top side pictures anyways.

Did the fix work Sam? I'm interested as I have to do it to mine in that case with a newer ECU
Cheers.
Can't afford it?... Don't buy/drive it...

Thats the ultimate electronics questionOriginally Posted by Negative Boost
Usualy its due to poor quality solder, and not enough heat when soldering.
Havn't looked at the fronts, but im sure you can now spot a bad solder joint
Yeh, thanks very much mate. Couldn't see any dry solders on the front, so i got my fingers crossed. Its also interesting to note that all those dry solders were for the resistors/mini black boxes/whatever that screw into the side of the ECU case. Odd i thought.
I havn't soldered them up yet Tim, still trying to get the courage up/thinking about taking it somewhere to solder it.

Im guessing they are voltage regulators.
Just do it.
Its not that hard.
My suggestions...
The three things on the side that screw to the case are the drivers for the injectors, not voltage regulators...(if the injectors were working I doubt the soldering there is the issue )
7mgte had a 6 wire stepper motor (so 4 switches to GND or a single IC...)...MP4501 looks like a winner? (Hammer Drive, Pulse Motor Drive and Inductive Load Switching IC) (http://www.datasheets.org.uk/pdf/mp4...eet.html....or http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=e...e+Search&meta=)
I'd trace back to that IC. Also you have checked to see that you can operate the ISCV manual as the TSRM states?
Cheers
Wilbo
Thanks Wilbo. I think your correct in saying MP4501 is a winner. I traced that back to the ISCV pins and also got hits on C802 and R833, which all look fine.
I tried soldering those dry solder joints but my pin-point soldering iron isn't hot enough and my other straight-cut tip one is tooo hot and i don't want to use that on the ECU board. So i'll do something about it on monday i reckon.
I have tested the ISCV as per TSRM but i havn't repeated those steps 125 times. But i can feel a defianate jolt through the iscv when holding it in my hand and grounding out the individual pins.

Just to 'finish' off a thread. I got those dry solder points resoldered but that didn't solve my problem so i'm tyring to work on other things now.
Cheers
