    hilux pug for the win.

struts $60 a pair from wrecker
    bearings $25 each side
    discs $80 each (RDA272)
machining discs down to 266mm and drilling to fit hubs ($80 all up for both)
calipers $250 in good nick (rebuild not required)
strut inserts $380 (pedders VRS ..sports not made for that strut)
    springs (already had selbys)

Thats 900 so far and then lines perhaps (i think mystd ones will work)

But it was only $520 for me as i already had the inserts as they are the same for ra23/28/40 ma60 ra60 xt130 from what parts suppliers told me.

What does the hoppers kit include for $1400? Im assuming only discs/calipers/caliper bracket .... for 1400? and from what ive seen of pbr/hopers kits there VT twin spots i think?

+ new hubs (in either 4 or 5 stud), new bearings, braided brake lines, new pads, etc. The nice thing is it's all brand new and if you are wanting to go 5x114.3 it's an easy option. I think the $1400 mark gets you a slotted/crossdrilled disc and for a plain disc and rubber brake lines you pay less than that.

Pricey yes, good, I'd say yes too from what I have seen.

The PBR caliper isn't a bad thing either, the pads are quite large and have a lot of contact area on the disc.

The other thing to remember too is some people like to shop easy and not rummage around wreckers and be chasing parts for weeks on end - each to their own.

I don't think you can go wrong either way.

another alternative is go an AE86/KE70/AE71 strut (cos they fit apparently) and use the strut top from the ta22 and get the big brake kit from T3

I must say, I'm leaning towards the AE86 or Hoppers options as I'd rather new gear and hopefully where parts are a little easier to come by new.

280-290mm ventilated slotted/drilled discs and either 2 pot or 4 pot calipers has to be an improvement over the TA22 ones. It's all relative.

And each time I look at the Pug/Lux/Rona upgrade for a TA22, it seems to involve a bit too much mucking around for my liking. It would probably cost me time and $900, and the T3 or Hoppers options probably $1200-1600 depending on specifics.

Like to try keep my Simmons V4 rims and 4x114.3 hubs too.

the main thing to look out for is where the rim dips in to allow tyre fitment as that can fowl calipers, also on 3pc rims check the nuts that bolt it together dont hang out to far as they can fowl too.

IDB Automotive in Richmond Vic. do 2 brake packages for ta22's. Thay have built quite a few IPR cars so they are well worth ringing. One package uses tokico calipers (reconditioned), new discs and corona struts. The better package includes totally reconditioned series 4-5 rx-7 calipers, brembo vented discs and all new fittings on a corona strut.

Has anyone here fitted the Hopper stopper kits to a TA22? If so, got any pics and feedback on how it went and how they perform?

I currently have the IDB brake upgrade and am looking for something a bit bigger and the Hopper stoppers look pretty good.
The IDB kit is a big improvement over the stock brakes, but I'm planning another rebuild of my 3T GTE and want better front brakes than the IDB ones. Can't remember the disc size, I'll have to check for comparison against the 290mm.

    Cheers,
    Simon

Hey Simon, I might be interested too in your IDB setup if you do :-)

I would be interested to see how the Hopper Stopper ones go too if you do it.

One thing I must say here... DONT GET CROSSDRILLED BRAKES ON THE STREET!!!! They are known to fail, they create massif yo dust, and wear your pads out really quick. They have ZERO benefit for a street and even weekend race car. They are only any good when you are in a really serious race car where weight is a major factor, and have the money to put new pads on every race and new rotors every half a season or earlier. Just get the slotteds, they do all the jobs you want, dont fail, dont wear pads as quick, and are cheaper.

Yeah, my preference is ventilated and slotted only. Even though the cross drilling looks good :-)

OK I'll keep you guys in mind "if" I decide to upgrade. The IDB kits are pretty good, just that I want a bit more stopping power as I'm aiming for around 200rwkw.

    Anyone here seen this one?

XA-XB Falcon Discs To Celica TA 22

Castlemaine Rod Shop in Victoria sell a kit for this. What it includes I'm not sure and although the thought of Ford gear going on a Toyota makes me shudder I reckon that if the kit is well priced and allows for a full conversion using off the shelf parts then you would end up with a VERY cheap conversion that would still be a big improvement. They may be old but even XB's have reasonably good brakes and if they can stop one of those barges then they should work well on a TA22. Does anynone know about this one?

I think I came across this ages ago, but kind of forgot about it.

There's a price list that lists it as $325

And it seems to indicate Ford XA/XB vented rotors to TA22 1600

A look at the DBA site suggests the XA/XB rotors are 287mm (same as Hopper's is seems).

Don't know if they include calipers or brackets, etc? And do the hubs stay 4x114.3?
