There is a SC14 22R-E racer, says its the standard AFM.
Apparently, up to 6 or so psi the standard 22R-E controls it fine.

Why do you need to upgrade the afm? If you are installing a supercharger you will need some sort of aftermarket ecu so you will probably do away with the AFM. In terms of air flow through the standard AFM, the inlet in the same size as a 1GGTE so it will be big enough not to be a restriction.

Fair enough then i wont need one.. I had seached it and someone said it needs to be upgraded as well as injectors..

As for ECU i was gonna try get away with the stock one.. Will it work on really low boost, like 6psi? If not how many coopons will i be looking at and whats involved in installing a aftermaket ECU (I dont normally deal with wiring)..

    Thanks,

    Pisso.

    For injectors, use 7M-GE.

22R-TE gear is probably a good idea.

Search google, heaps of yanks have done this.

Why do i need to change the ECU anyways? Im really not good with wiring but the way i see it is you upgrade injectors and then the ECU will cope with the extra boost.. There is no wiring on the supercharger other than the power which im running to a switch inside, is that all there is.. I havnt seen the charger yet

    Thanks,

    Pisso.

if u upgrade injectors then the whole mixutre table will be out

just buy a microtech and stop wasting money on std ecu where it will always be half right

If you are going to add any boost, you will need some sort of programmable ecu. Your stock ecu wont work with boost as it will not be able to adjust to add more fuel. You cant just upgrade the injectors as you standard ecu is only programmed to work with the stock injectors. Your engine will get flooded and probably wont even idle. Trust me I have tried installing 7MGTE injectors in my 1GGTE with the stock ecu, fuel would literally come out the exhaust at idle! Something like a entry level microtech will do it but is it all really worth this effort and MONEY for minimal performance gain?

Another thing you could look into is 22RET. Try ebay in the USA, they have gone crazy with 22R's over there.

Yea I was going down the supercharged track as a cheaper option to the 1G-GTE but if i have to change the ECU i might as well go 1G..

Thanks for all the imput guys..

Just another question on this. Would it work with stock injectors and the supercharger? or would it be no gain at all...

    Thanks,

    Chris.

After doing a build up of a 22re I would say don't waste your time. If you are going to be changing the ecu then it will be much cheaper to put in a 1g. If you still are keen head to http://celica-gts.com/forums/

most likely not, i run 10psi of boost on the 18RTE and i figured in needed 280cc/min injectors (as a minimum) to remain in safe AFRs.

As it is, i run 365cc/min injectors and now have heaps of headroom for bigger duty cycle.

see here for a handy reference for injector sizing (scroll down ~3 pages and you'll find a chart for selecting injectors based on estimated horsepower output.

    Very handy, thanks 'thechuckster'.

So even if i had bigger injectors and the superchager with the stock ECU it wouldnt work? Basicly is there anyway to make the supercharger work without changing the ECU?

The main reason im pushing to do this is its different and even if its not the best result i will have learned a lot in an area of mechanics i dont normally deal with.. So any ideas on the best way to make this work?

    Thanks,

    Pisso.

personal opinion is that stock the ECU would be a PITA - it's fuel & spark maps simply wouldn't cope with the extra airflow that a SC would demand and you'd grenade the engine before you achieved anything meaningful.

-mount SC on zorst side of engine
-mount FMIC from something or buy cheap eBay intercooler & fabricate/purchase plumbing to suit
-buy some larger injectors (e.g. 260-320cc/min)
-by a 2nd-hand aftermarket ECU (e.g. haltech, microtech)...
    -spend similar amount on tuning.

this way you learn how to wire up, plumb up and a bit about tuning a forced-induction engine... then you repeat the process with an engine designed to be blown..
