stupid question here, but is the radiator fan running?
thanks for the suggestions.
looks like i have 2 bhgs on wheels haha
well to be fair the supra hasnt currently got a bhg, but yeah might as well have.
i dont know whats the better plan, do the head gasket, cambelt and water pump on this motor, or buy another motor.
the upside about buying another motor would be, i could sell the bits off the bhg motor to pay for the new motor, but then i could be back to square one.
hmm
stupid question here, but is the radiator fan running?
hey
yeah fan is running, but most cars wont have the fan running till about 5-10 mins of idling.
my fan is currently rigged up to be on constantly
cheers
I have also seen this numerous times. Import engines commonly have stuffed pumps from sitting too long. Also, if you dont get the cold bypass circuit working, the thremostat will never see hot water and open properly. The factory manual shows how it all works. The thermostat is a special one with a footvalve--they also fail regularly. the 20V pump is also special. we usually have both at work. if you still suspect a blown gasket,. then any reputable engine shop can do a chemical test to confirm this. The test checks for combustion gasses in the water circuit. Takes about 15 mins to do. hope this helps
Yeah, Karl, was just explaining the reasoning so that others could understand why i came to that conclusion. However, whether the HG is the symptom of the water pump, or whether the HG died enroute is another matter entirely. Either way its definately a HG, and you would be silly not to replace the pump when you do HG and timing belt.

Well I, too, have joined the overheating 20V club. Looks like I did not go so far as the BHG though.
How do I test if the Water pump is shagged? I took the thermostat out to flush the engine out and got it to all run clear. When I filled it back up I lef the thermostat out and I left the top rad hose off. I thought that when I turned the engine on, the water pump should make the top Rad hose spew coolant. But it did nothing. Is that conclusive proof? Can I run without the thermostat to help the water circulate better to limp to the workshop?

if there was no coolant/water flowing, then it's probably safe to assume that the pump aint working.Originally Posted by The Last Streetfighter

...... butt scratcher?!
Yes well the flow of green stuff out of the engine has started in earnest now, so I am going about the waterpump change per Rollamods.com...

loosen the tensioner, and wiggle it out, its really not hard at all.
basic thing about working on cars, is everything comes off in layers, and, although possible to do something without removing something else, its generally not advisable, as it will make your life 14 times harder
