Ah thanks,
I've done TDC allignment on another car before which wasn't bad at all to find out
Hopefully it isn't the harmonic balancer, they are expensive hahah
I'm hoping to get it all done today.
Wish me luck
Thank you again!
checking the harmonic balancer as described is a good start.
set up engine on TDC as described, take the cam over off and check the timing. there are notch marks on the tops of both cams that line up with marks on the front cam cap. its easy to see if its out. www.roadandtrack.net.au

also if its a new motor i would remove the rocker cover and check that both cams are timed together correctly
just remove the rocker cover and on the cam scissor gears there will be two dots they should match up together when you spin the cams
the dots are on the dizzy side of the gears
although this wouldnt throw out your timing marks it could make it not rev over 4800 like you said it does
Just took off the cam cover,
and also the timing belt cover
I'm not sure which actual point i'm lookin at on the cam gear,
I see a DIMPLE in the bearing cap at the back but its about 2cm off where the hole of the cam gear is..
There is a line on the dizzy and the line on the actual inlet cam which line up!
Thanks

put the crank on tdc
get a mirror and have a look throught the small hole in the cam gear directly above the cam gear bolt (should be near the top)
get a mirror and look through that hole and there should be a little notch in the front cam cap that will be straight ahead through the hole
also make sure you have turned the motor clockwise to tdc and not backwards ensuring the belt is tight on the side that matters
if u have the crank pulley mark lined up, and the cam pulley hole doesn't line up with the mark, then ur timing is out a tooth
from there its just a matter of removing the belt, and doing it properly its not hard
and thats about it
I'm having trouble untensioning the belt without taking off the bottom cover of the timing belt.
As i was moving the belt off the pulley i made a small mark in the belt which REALLY pissed me off. on the top layer,
Its about 2mm and 1 mm in, slight mark,
I'm thinkin about gettin a mobile mechanic to swing past and finish the job for me as i might have to change the timing belt!
Unless u might be interested in the job Bobomacho
just in case u are my number is 0425 823 736
I'd pay for ur help!

mate if you have got this far you would be able to replace the belt and if the mark is small enough in the belt it would be ok
you would be surprised some of belts i have seen that will still stay on
Exactly... if you've got that far it's only another 10 minutes tops to take the bottom cover off, and if need be $15 for a harmonic balancer remover if it's stubborn. Which is a lot cheaper than a mobile mechanic will be!
I am the sun
Its all done now,
The belt had a slight nick on it where the top backing part was cut but it was only about 2mm not even,
I managed to loosen the tensioner and it was a rather easy task
Saved myself $150 thanks to you guys help!
I gave everyone rep for your information, its priceless when someones stuck!!
The car drives so much better, timing was able to be set 100% and the car will actually rev out to 6000+ now, before it would stop, the car goes so much better now
it was out by about 2 teeth.
