yea now that you mention it, A and B series diffs are way out.

    oops..

anyway, does traction control prevent you starting a donut? that silenced my friends about wether or not my lsd worked.
    About to go Exterior crazy.

That site is probably mkiv.co.nz, which amazingly has never been updated even though the information is so obviously wrong. 145mm is less than 6 inches, much smaller than a T series, and MkIV's regularly do 10's or better with the stock "145mm" diff... something doesn't add up there!

i have a B series diff in the KE15... thats what they came in stock... 5.7"

i think the only smaller diff was the 2.7ratio one from KP starlet which was 5.6"

and, it's just stupid to do that anyways....
I can vouch, my apple RA40 with less than stock 18RC, VERY loose open T292 diff and W50 has already dropped a double spinner on tarmac(and its not even on the road yet).

Brett can vouch too, he was there.

In my car, it doesn't prevent you from starting it. e.g. in the wet if you try to lose traction it's easy enough with the traction control on, but almost straight away the no traction light on the dash will start flashing and then the auto goes into "snow mode". Then your car feels like a 1970s diesel if you try and get any power out of it.

any chance you would like to make internet history and fame and fortune.. well sort of... and pull your diff, count the teeth, measure the crownwheel size and check if it has LSD?

you'd be the ONLY person on the internet to do so so far...

or you could ask toyota what the code means.

You mean I could be famous?!

I'd love to do it, but I have absolutely zero mechanical ability. I don't even know what a crownwheel is If someone who knows what they're doing wants to come over and do it, then they're welcome to.

Who would I ask at Toyota? I used to own a Skyline and when I once called Nissan up about something they just said "Import?" had a bit of a laugh and then gave me a bit of a serve about not buying locally.

    How's your Japanese?

I found this on a website and tried to babelfish it, but it mangled it a bit. It might not be useful, but it mentions LSD.

Actually here's the whole discussion. I think I just took a snippet out of the middle.

    http://log.drift.jp/qanda/view.cgi?c...801&e=20040810

    Go down to conversation 76348.

Can anyone here understand that? From what I can gather it says that the series 2 JZX100s have a B01D instead of a B01B, so it's an LSD. I could be totally wrong though, as I'm just a babelfisher.

It's just as bad with Toyota, believe me. In fact I even have problems with my locally-delivered 1984 Supra, which none of the pimply-faced rocket scientists at the parts counter have ever heard of, so they just say "sorry we don't do imports". Idjits.

Yeah, it shits me too, because I know they have access to the exact same parts database.

Hey guys, just thought I'd post up what skipppy at jzx100.com found out about the new axle codes. It's in Russian, but you can run it through babelfish.

    From http://forums.auto.vl.ru/showthread.php?p=114361 -

Для Toyota. Расшифровка кодов подкапотной таблички.
    Строка TRANS/AXLE.
    Для примера:
    Hilux - TRANS/AXLE G52 G285
    Chaser - TRANS/AXLE R154 B02D
    Caldina - TRANS/AXLE S55F -06A

    2 - 2 сателлита
    3 - 2 сателлита с LSD
    4 = 4 сателлита
    5 = 4 сателлита с LSD

    A - 2 сателлита
    B - 4 сателлита
    C - 2 сателлита с LSD
    D - 4 сателлита с LSD

В данном случае LSD установлен на Hilux и Chaser. На Caldina он отсутствует.

So my B01D code means I've got 4 "satellites" with LSD. Anyone know what that means?

I would assume "satellites" means "pinion gears".

I can confirm that in the jzx90 and jzx100 families, an A02D code is defiantly a torsen, one was a 3.7 ratio, and I never checked the other, but assume that is was the same. They were both turbos, both manual, one a 90 series, the other a 100.
    Hope this helps!

BTW, does anyone know what ratio an A01A in a turbo JZS147 Aristo is?
